To my surprise, reducing salt was no big deal for me. It was a matter of weaning off of it. I can’t even eat canned soup now … too salty. Ramen noodles, I use 1/3 of the packet. I use Mrs. Dash a lot. I don’t know how Mr. Dash feels about it…

@fun4us2b She’s not really all that fast.

I have put myself on a relatively low-sodium diet.
I cook most of my own meals, and I never add salt to what I am cooking.
Of course, there is plenty of salt in lots of foods already, even bread.
But I have found that after being used to this kind of eating, that I actually have come to dislike very salty things.

@ScreamingFox That's the best way - so you always know what's in it!

Changing life long habits can be rough but you'll feel so much better.
Bulk cooking, with fresh ingredients, is a time saver.

@AngelUnforgiven Thank you! I will absolutely be cleaning up my diet. I have in the past adopted very healthy habits and kept them for years, and then gone off-track, so I do know how. The very good news is that I have this chance to fix it instead of going on meds...

lokk for products labeled low sodium and only use the top half, the salt is on the bottom

Thats the spirit, man, take a common problem and make it a catastrophe💀..did he not give you a low salt diet
fun4us2b · M
@bookerdana No, he just said stop it! I already can't have gluten and most gluten free substitutes I'm now finding out are loaded with sodium

Buy prepared foods with lower added salt (judged from the ingredients list on the packet), don't add salt yourself.
Salt does occur naturally in some foods of course, and we don't normally need add more.

@fun4us2b Yes - used as a flavour enhancer I think, suggesting not much flavour to start with.
Most cheeses have salt added, and always have done.
Some of the largest differences are between the "big name" cereals and sauces and their supermarket "own-brand" equivalents, the latter having significantly less sugar and salt.
