Why’s skin colour such a massive thing?

4meAndyou · F
In the United States, we were well on the way to creating a place in which skin color is NOT such a massive thing. Unfortunately, there are groups of socialists and Marxists inside this country who wish to create and perpetuate division.

One of the leaders of BLM, who took all the donations to buy houses for her own personal use, is an admitted Marxist.

@4meAndyou Divide them, conquer them.
Driver2 · M
@4meAndyou your correct it’s the evil left who exploit old racists views to divide people
4meAndyou · F
@Driver2 Because they needed to divide us, they try to resurrect old evils and perpetuate them.

Doesn't matter to me, never has. Glad I don't understand such an issue too!
RebelFox · 36-40, F
I really dont know. I dont give a shit about anyone's meatbag, I just care about their heart.
BlueVeins · 22-25
Probably because skin color is the most visual racial difference, and is therefore easiest to distinguish based off of.

Since ancient times fair skin has been viewed as desirable so there are even beauty products that lighten the skin. My mother has to order her skin products online or before then buy them on the military base b/c she is black and has no desire to be lighter but we live in Korea where fair skin is extremely important. People are wearing long sleeves and pants even in the summer to keep themselves pale. I can't count the number of times my mother got accused of stealing her own mixed race children b/c having non black father we are very light brown or yellow skinned. I remember that I used to want to be brown or black like Mommy but my father and paternal family was always like "Why you want to be dark and ugly?!" Message loud and clear. Fair skin is beautiful, dark skin is hideous.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
Because it's a distinction that can be made by just looking at something.

A bit like boobs becomming a massive thing when they are overly visible.
Penny · 46-50, F
I dont think skin color matters so much, it's the associations some people have with skin color, the pre-suppositions, the stereotypes... though preference in looks can play a part too I guess.
Penny · 46-50, F

It's a difference. It's the nature of man to find differences and the easier and more obvious, the better. From the moment three humans huddled together, alliances have and outsiders have been formed. When you get right down to it, we're a poorly adapted animal for this world - we are frightened and ill-equipped so we find our safety and defense in numbers.

Color doesn't dictate a man's character, but it is a difference because it suggests other experience and culture. Just as dangerous as those who use it to divide and oppress are those who ignore its existence altogether. We are different, we are varied. What we'd do well learning is that "different" doesn't mean "bad."

Because the elites in colonial-days USA were outnumbered by poor uneducated working whites who they regularly mistreated and exploited.

In order to prevent them from massing together and overthrowing them, they subjugated black people for cheap labor and then told the poor uneducated whites that they were better than those black people because they were white.

Now that the uneducated and poor whites had an outlet upon which they could easily visit their rage and frustration at being plebs, they no longer had any reason go direct their aggression at the people who actually deserved it: the elites.

The elites of today employ similar tactics

IGNORANCE, PLUS A CONSERVATIVE UPBRINGING ARE THE TWO MOST COMMON VARIABLES IN THIS EQUATION.

GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
It isnt. Some people have just been indoctrinated to think that. I know a guy whos racist only because he assumes people will be racist to him. He doesnt realise hes causing the issue. Years of propaganda has created generations of hate only to create proffit for someone else.
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
It’s actually not 🤷🏻‍♂️
iamelijah · 26-30, M
Beauty standard I guess. Beauty products are endorsing fair is beauty.
I know some people would bleach their skin just to look pretty.
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@meggyboo] well really it should not unless you have racially discrimative ways
SW-User
Because socialists and Marxists are racist idiots trying to sow tension and division.
Coppercoil · M
Try having a bunch of freckles.. that throws everyone off.
SW-User
@Coppercoil Hmm. Had no idea. I figured freckles were considered beautiful particularly on redheads, though most times I've seen them adored it's always been on women not men
SW-User
It concerns the masses, of stereotypes, and of not thinking.
RainDropsandRoses · 22-25, F
It shouldn’t be! You’re so stunning!
SW-User
because people are ignorant.
SW-User
It's not but some make it a big deal
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
It’s not to me 🤷🏻‍♀️
caesar7 · 61-69, M
It's not the color, it's the individual.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
It shouldn’t be but it is for some people
SW-User
It just is. I mean, who wants to be near anyone with purple skin?
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
