America has awakened!

And not just in the colloquial sense of "woke". Awakened to the fact that we have never stood for authoritarianism, really do want a Department of Defense and not War, want our legislators to seek practical solutions that recognize differing needs and values, have never taken to be talked down to and pigeonholed with labels and name-calling or forced into believing that just because we live in a digitalized world doesn't mean everything has to be polarized into good or evil, black or white.

And one of the most encouraging things I saw was a report that the predominate flipping from red to blue was in the reddest of counties, districts, localities not the marginally red or purple districts. In other words, the Tsunami came not just from a larger voter turnout and the normal erosion of midterms, but a sign that the most enthusiastic supporters of Trump and MAGA were beginning to see through the empty promises, the outright lies and distortions.

Now comes the hard part. How to constructively rebuild our great democracy together, red and blue, conservative and liberal, working together and finding common purposes without just embarking on a tit for tat prosecution and punishment reign of terror from the opposite pole.

You mentioned Conservative and Liberal. What about the Socialists? they are the ones that gained
real power yesterday. They will take over the Democrat party along with the Islamic Socialists.

@sunsporter1649 And what about all the white males that commit crimes OR are you just singling out Muslims
Seems like it’s a bit bias in your concept

@black4white So white is now a religion?

While I am sure that you personally are true to your words, along with many other good Americans, I have my doubts that your vision of America is what drove the results on the vote .. I feel that it was immediate self interest in the form of rising prices, particularly costs for rural voters, plus the extemely public rises in the cost or fuel and its 1+1=2 connection back to the Trump ignited attacks on Iran. People simply voted for their wallet..
I repeat that I am not doubting your sincerity. I simply dont think there enough with your moral fibre to establish this stunning result. If I am correct, this result will fade over the next two years as the situation for the economy doesnt improve markedly..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman In the immortal words of Bill Clinton, "It's the economy, stupid" and always will be the major -- and for some, only -- thing that matters in any election. I think the encouraging signs in this Tsunami are:

(1) mainstream, true conservative Republicans are finding their backbones and breaking with Trump and MAGA, and seem ready to begin holding the current administration accountable (in more ways than impeachment) and to pursue some pragmatic, bipartisan legislation; and,

(2) both the Democratic and Republican parties are showing signs of wrestling with the fact that if they want to be Big Tents, they are purple tents and not MAGA Red nor Socialized Blue.

My dream, of course, is we become more of a patchwork quilt of smaller parties with multiple visions and choices for the electorate rather than just the two big tents. But that calls for a Constitutional Amendment to overcome SCOTUS's ludicrous Citizens United financial campaign ruling that makes it profitable for the Oligarchs to buy both parties, and a total revamping of election laws which the two principal political parties have skewed over the years to make it nearly impossible of smaller parties to gain traction.

@dancingtongue I believe Clinton never said wiser words. I really dont care about the politics of the situation. I simply want the budget to balance. Either only spend what you raise in taxes, or tax up to the level you wish to spend. Any other practice makes governing unsustainable in the long term,,😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Of course, reality is that everything in life whether it is family or the planet involves politics. The art of the possible; getting things done.

I just read Robert Reich's article in The Guardian, and his lead also about America awakening. I started to pat myself on the back for being in elite company, when I heard an ol' journalism professor of mine stirring in his grave, and felt him glaring at me.

He used to go into tirades about those who would only read The N.Y. Times, The Washington Post, or "worst of all, those who will only read the airmail version of The Manchester Guardian." (Different era, different technology.) "Real journalism," according to him, "is represented by the [i]N.Y. Post[i] which gets down in the gutters and roots our the real issues."

I wish he were still living so I could hear his take on today's broadcast and social media "real news from the gutter" and his shibboleths being labeled "fake news".

You have a serious problem now. If they spend the next two years going after Trump like they always do.. They're gonna prove once again they can't get anything done. And they are facing Veto after Veto if they don't cooperate. Trump has nothing to lose. They have everything to prove. They had full control under Biden. Look what happened. Yes, the election of 2028, is there to lose. Big time, might I say. The flip works both ways. If the citizens don't see economic relief, they are screwed.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@DogMan I'm feeling the need to divorce myself from SW political discussions especially after seeing the margin the likes of Abdul El-Sayed won by. I'm absolutely ashamed of the voters and those here who are thinking through TDS and not Common Sense.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Gibbon Hopefully they will use the impeachment powers judiciously. Rep. Massey's is the only one outstanding against Trump, and he is a lame duck. The ones against the Secretaries of Health and Education are better dealt with by pursuing legislation to rein in and put up guard rails on some of the things they are doing. There are several against Hegseth, and I think those are worth pursuing, particularly since Vance already has thrown him under the bus and Trump is wavering in his support. Plus there are reports that there is a treasure trove of documents hat have been -- and are being -- being safeguarded by both new and former senior uniformed officers for Congressional hearings.

Of course, one path the Administration could try is to have lame duck Speaker Mike Johnson bring all of the existing impeachment proposals he has been sitting on to the floor for a vote, to either have the MAGA lame ducks push them through so they can claim persecution, or to have them voted down so they can say "see, nothing there".

@Gibbon EXACTLY! 2 years of clown shows and we go Red again!

MAGA is the cancer that must be removed. It is the toxic philosophy that is killing the US.
