Some of my American colonists ancestors supported the revolution, even serving in the military. Other ancestors opposed breaking from England. I wonder what kind of discussion they would be having now.

I had enslaved ancestors on July 4, 1776, and they were still enslaved afterwards. So while I can enjoy fireworks displays, get-togethers and barbecue, I admit the significance of the day itself has been largely lost on me.
