So I went to the 24 hour gas station near my house

The clerk was literally in tears when I got there. Why? Because her husband is going to prison on Monday.

Why was she at work? Because they don’t give her a key and if she leaves they will arrest her too for leaving all that money and goods unlocked and unattended.

So go ahead and tell me just because she gets paid a bull**** wage she isn’t a slave.

Tell me again why this system “works”

oh how some try and water down what it means to actually be a slave.

Could she legally be beat to death for leaving her job? no.
Its a job, you take upon responsibilities when working and know the pros and cons when applying for a job.
If you cant do that job, quit and let someone else who can do the work, do the work
Torsten · 36-40, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow well that is what one could do to their slave is it not? There is no goal post moved.
Mate you're reaching so hard trying for some gotcha moment. Its not working

do you work? I dont think you do if you think im out of touch here.
You come off as extremely entitled

a label you tried to put on me and now twist my words into it fitting?
🤣 yeah okay mate. Keep reaching

I think the many many unemployed people who cant seem to find work would certainly be grateful for that type of job. You call it table scraps and again that is you coming off as a very entitled

Why keep trying to bring other examples into this? ohh wait, its course you really dont have a leg to stand on here

No I have the mentality that adults can look out for themselves and a job in no way considered slavery in the context of this thread.
@Torsten It is because it has nothing to do with the actual definition.

Lol. The right wing rich kid war cry of "get a job." Entitled is acting like you have never had to work a job to survive. Entitled and out of touch is acting like jobs are just something people pick and choose as hobbies.

Table scraps is not entitled, it is accurate if you know anything about wages for the last half century.

And unemployment is a whole separate issue but is also weaponized to coerce people into these positions.

"do whatever the fuck I demand or I will find someone who will."

Other examples were brought up because the point of the discussion is about how the USA mistreats workers on a level that is unacceptable or even illegal in the rest of the developed world.

On workers rights the US is half a century behind.

The US forces employees to pay for money stolen during an armed robbery. Why should this surprise anyone?

Oh and fun fact that money would be paid back by their insurance which means they almost certainly doubled their profit by extortion.

Helloeveryone · 56-60, F
the site is so private i would say yours.

Quitting isn't illegal, she should have called the owner or manager and told them she was leaving. The only job you can be legally charged with a crime for leaving is the military. It is her choice to work there or not.
There is a reason they used to call this wage slavery. Past generations got it.
@MalteseFalconPunch And sadly some right wing idiots here think copying objectively failed American ideas is a good idea.

@MalteseFalconPunch In my home province where I grew up we have a clown known by many as "Canadian Trump" who is the brother of a literal coke head who got famous embarrassing Toronto on the international stage. Anyway this clown is working on privatizing the provincial healthcare system and they are already price gouging the provincial government. When asked about it his response was "I can't control what the private sector does." My reaction was as follows

He seems completely unaware that this statement completely invalidates his plan to privatize healthcare.

These are the same people who privatized the provincial power utility and are still hated for it. If your electric bill quadrupled you got lucky.
What if there was an emergency?

That is awful
