Half an hour of nostalgia

I watched this from beginning to end. Having been born in Britain in the post war years a dozen of these meals were familiar to me and my grandmother made the most wonderful semolina pudding I have never had since..
It was a different time. But as things are today, maybe there will be a place for this austere style again. 😷

My Late Grandmother was originally " In Service " she was a Kitchen maid the next step up was Cook however she left Service to get married and start a family, she could make a good meal out of most things, sadly her daughter my late Mom wasn't interested in cooking.
@senghenydd My mother was born between the wars and a child of the great depression. The running gag in my family was that she couldnt cook. But could knit bacon rinds into socks..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I've been watching a cook living in a Campervan demonstrating his cooking skills, also an American Bushmsn cooking by his camp-fire.

You can learn a lot on Y/Tube it's one of the best things that's happened on the Internet, there's even a chap cutting and welding steel using Laser equipment which is ground breaking.

In my family, the fight between us kids was who didn't get the skin on top of the rice pudding. Only one of us liked it. As for the rest, I don't know how I survived as I dislike onions so much.

50p a serving is impressive . . but not quite in the range of Conservative/Reform UK MP Lee ("30p Lee") Anderson's outstanding home economics.

I didn't watch the video to the end, so this may already have been mentioned, but I can buy a kilo of porridge oats in plain packaging for around £1.20p - one serving for breakfast can fuel me throughout the day. Exactly the same product in branded Quaker Oats packaging will set you back around eight times as much.
@SunshineGirl Porridge does get a mention near the end. And a reference to the left over porridge being allowed to cool and "set" in a drawer (I remembered that reference) and sliced up and fried in Scotland..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Somehow that doesn't surprise me!
