A political dilemma in the UK

The Tories treat the British public as commodities.

Labour policies offer little, and it’s leader is a bore.

Genuine question.....why vote?
gol979 · 41-45, M
@whowasthatmaskedman makes no sense but i suppose its an answer
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@gol979 voice all the opinion you like. It's what social media was created for, but it's not influential and determines nothing
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Picklebobble2 another comment but still no answer.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
Democracy and politics in a nutshell.
A choice of 2 people neither of whom knows what it is like to live amongst the people and the problems the low waged have or any real ideas to tackle problems that are prevalent. But the democracy to vote for whichever one you want.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
You should start your own political movement in time for the 2024 general election. Dilemma solved! 🙂
SW-User
@SunshineGirl That is an opt out.

Possibly the Liberals may soften the approach. But they did not last time.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@SW-User It's participatory democracy. If you feel there is no real choice, then create one. President Macron did in France . . effectively neutered two established parties.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
I'm literally a Labour Party member and I agree with you.

Controversial opinion (sorry not sorry) a Corbyn-led govt was the one option in recent history that would have actually done something different. However, the British establishment demonised him and the public rejected him. So here we are.
SW-User
@Burnley123 Equally alarming is that the last time the Liberals were in coalition, they were not a moderating force, but more Tory than the Tories.
And as for the Ulster Unionists, the less said the better.
Then we have the Scottish MPs that have lost their way. It is hopeless.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 As much as I wanted to see Corbyn in I think him being in charge during the Covid pandemic would've done untold damage to The Labour party, even if it had only cost a tenth of what The Tories spent.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@GeniUs Yes indeed. The political establishment would have been undermining him anyway. If a Corbyn led labour govt had dealt with the pandemic twice as well as the Tories, they would have got ten times the criticism. He wouldn't have lasted a full term

Honestly, neoliberalism is so locked down in the UK that it's just seen as common sense to most politicians, the media, the civil service and much of the public. One man at the top of the party and a hundred thousand left activists was never going to be enough to change the country. It pains me to say this because I was one of those activists. It was worth a shot but we were always going to massively outgunned.

It is grimly amusing for me to see centre left people starting to realise quite how craven and rightwing Starmer is. Some are still clinging to hope. The Labour left has known for three years. The Labour right does not care about the party supporters at all.
Robert6 · 61-69, M
Not perfect but Labour always better than the Tories who have caused huge damage. No dilemma who to vote for!
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Robert6 Not discouraging you from voting labour but, however meagre your expectations are, they are likely to be disappointed.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Sometimes, flushing the bowl of its stinking contents is more urgent than what may come next.. Particularly when you consider what message failing to flush might send.... Australia went through that process a while ago and there were doubts about the new people. But I dont think there are many with regrets as its turned out..😷
smiler2012 · 61-69
{@rye12345] 😆maybe you think that of kier starmer and i respect what you say but we need rid of the tories . far as lack of charisma goes you need too go back to the nineties for a leader lacking any in the shape of john major. this aptly named grey man and his character ridiculed by spitting image as such
SW-User
@smiler2012 A little unfair on Kier, at least he does not come across as an avatar like Rishi.
Labour:- There's a better way than the Tory way...

Also Labour:- What, you expect us to know what that way is - and implement it??? 🤔🤔🤔
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
From what I've heard, the Tories bring to the table a bunch of brain dead ideas. Very similar to the conservatives over here.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@deadgerbil It's the same party; Conservative is the official name Tory is a shortened version or nickname not sure how it came about but it is so often used that they call it themselves now.
Robert6 · 61-69, M
I am sorry but to equate Kier Starmer and the Labour Party with the Conservatives is without evidence. Frankly it is preposterous and dangerously cynical. Only the Tories benefit from utterances.
Robert6 · 61-69, M
Please explain how Labour disenfranchises one hundred thousand homeless families.
Really don't follow about cars either. The point is to keep polluting vehicles out of London for the health of everyone ,especially children and old people ,highly susceptible to respiratory illness.
SW-User
@Robert6 That is nonsense.
Try to vote without a Passport, a Bus Pass or a Driving License.

Don’t believe the hype about pollution.
Robert6 · 61-69, M
Please read the reports about childhood asthma and other serious illness caused by fumes and particles.
Agree electoral law has taken a wrong turn.
Was there an alternative?
meggie · F
It's the last days!!
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
As an American, it's good to know there are other countries where the political choices are awful too.
Robert6 · 61-69, M
The Conservatives are awful. Agreed. Wouldn't describe Labour as such by any means. Would be a distinct improvement.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
I started voting libs till Cleg jumped in bed with tories perhaps it’s time to forgive them.
Carissimi · F
He doesn’t know what a woman is. He’s more than a bore.
Robert6 · 61-69, M
That is simply your opinion to which you are entitled but with which I disagree.

@Robert6 wow, first time ive seen anyone actually say a good thing about sir, trilateral commission kier starmer. Hes just as bad as the blue team
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
Tories a waste of time and energy
But the idiots keep voting them in
You reap what you sow
SW-User
@Strictmichael75 I agree, a lot of todays problems are of their making, but there are no easy solutions.

At least a change of government, whether Labour or coalition, will give fresh ideas. And as I said earlier we are humans, not commodities.
Neither are perfect, but seeing as I wasnt born into money, my vote goes red.
SW-User
@V00doo At least Labour treat us as human beings of value.
@SW-User
Apparently
