I suppose in WWII we did pick between them and chose the Communists over the Nazis. As I recall that one actually did work out fairly well for us in the end.

And then, in the cold war when we faced off against the Communists ... Once again, worked out fairly well for us.

I'm not sure we actually picked them. They were already in the anti-Hitler camp when we joined the war, right? I suppose we could have opted not to help them.
