The supermarket rip off of 'eco friendly' paper bags

Coles here charges $0.25 per bag. The previous 'coles better bags' made from recycled plastic (which I still have heaps off 2 yrs after they were banned but they're getting tears etc. now) cost $0.15.

Before that, free bags were supplied (the old grey plastic ones which almost everyone re-used as rubbish bags or similar).

I feel it's a commercial scam as each day a single supermarket could be 'selling' thousands of made in Vietnam paper bags. If they were made in Australia it might be a fair value proposition.

I think the idea is to reduce consumption of disposable bags, not branch out into a new commercial line.

I always re-used my plastic bags as bin liners. Unfortunately significant numbers of my fellow citizens used them to decorate trees and brighten up natural waterways. Hence the decision to put a price on the environmental damage.

@SunshineGirl You really don't see that many plastic bag "decorations" anymore. It's definitely had an impact :)

@SunshineGirl I can only imagine how depressed he would have been...

@G7J2O Replaced for a short period by disposable face masks. Now the main item I encounter on litter picks is the disposable vape. We're getting there gradually . .

I have a lifetime supply of those plastic bags my wife accumulated for years. Plus more than enough of the woven ones . I will gladly part with all the plastics from Woolies, Coles and Aldi (a superior bag). Just let me know when you are coming down..😷
I went to the local chemist and they are free

Another business opportunity that went offshore
