Have you been a victim of Porch piracy– also known as package theft – is on the rise as more and more in Australia

Next door neighbour has had three packages stolen because she relies on me being in to receive them. Problem with that is she never asks and so I never have an opportunity to tell her if I won't be in. I always have mine delivered to a nearby pick up point now - much safer and easier to argue if it disappears/is damaged.

I've watched plenty of drivers drop stuff without alerting the householder and the recipient gets a message saying 'handed to recipient'. 🤬

My neighbor got a package stolen off her porch over a year ago. I got a small package stolen last month from my mailbox less than 20 minutes after it was delivered. Yes it’s getting bad in my city.

I haven't had that problem in my present apartment. There are security cameras pointed directly at the mail and package delivery area. That keeps most people honest.

However, it doesn't prevent the lazy delivery drivers who don't feel like ringing the buzzer in the foyer from just dumping packages off in the unsecured foyer. Anyone could just walk in from the parking lot and grab packages and no one would know.

Nope.
I have found CCTV discourages them and they move on to elsewhere.
However, I have heard it makes no difference in the Anfield area.

@Nimbus Have scousers will steal

It's also very much a problem here. One way around it is there are local drop boxes you can mail to, at least for amazon. Otherwise I think (at least here) you can arrange it to be picked up at the local post office.

We live in SD, USA and here most people have guns and love to use them so only in the two largest cities full of liberals is that a problem. All the smaller cities and towns never have to worry since if the property owner is gone the good neighbor next door will get target practice.😅

My neighbour caught a dude red handed.

He ran ... and she texted us to warn us.
Once that I can remember. The crazy thing is it was a 10 dollar HDMI cable. Not exactly a high dollar item. They used a box cutter to slit open the package and left the empty envelop on the porch.

I havent. But visible cameras cover the house front and anyone coming of going has a fair walk to cover..😷

Here's my advice on how to combat it effectively. I hope this helps.

Well we live out nowhere so.. less thievery but they did deliver our box to the neighbor across the street once instead of to us 🙄

I wouldn't know. If someone sends me something and doesn't let me know, I would never know. 😂

Turned out to be the delivery driver who was nicking the occasional parcel... Some old Indian dude who's probably working for the taxation department now.
Atlotto · M
Yes, I have.
Never been a victim of that
More than I like.
AbbeyRhode · F
Yes, I have. Thank you, Governor Meathead Murphy! 😡
icedsky · 51-55, M
I have more problems trying to find where they delivered it instead of someone stealing it.

We live way out in the country and the little dog that .lives here always alerts us to most things outside

Fortunately I have not. We live in a very safe neighborhood.

@nedkelly 🤷‍♂serves you right in a way for letting scousers emigrate too your country ned 🤔you know nothing is safe if it is not nailed down when there is a scouser in your neighbourhood lol 😆
exexec · 70-79, C
No. The Post Office loses our packages the old-fashioned way, incompetence.
