House greenlights ACA subsidies extension with backing of 17 Republicans having a mid-term anxiety attack.

The House on Thursday approved the renewal of the expired ObamaCare subsidies, delivering a blow to Republican leadership and underlining conference divides.

Seventeen Republicans joined 213 Democrats in support of the three-year extension after the Affordable Care Act tax credits lapsed at the end of last year. The bill, which passed 230-196, will now head to the Senate, where it has a slim chance of moving to the floor.

Twelve years ago they promised to move us all from insurance to Medicare for all. Take your time! When Dems do nothing we wait! We'll reelect you anyways! American people have no other choices.

@Roundandroundwego House Democrats voted in favor, as will the Senate Democrats.

It's the Senate Republicans that will kill this bill.

It won't pass the Senate though, so it's mostly performative. But when performance is the only thing that is available, it's worth the shot.
CedricH · 22-25, M
Can be easily vetoed assuming it even passes the Senate.

Yes, it could. But unlike the response to the preliminary War Powers Act vote, Trump hasn't threatened any of the 17 Republicans - yet.

It might be a sense of recognition that NOT approving the subsidies could sink the Republicans' hopes of retaining control of the House.

And Trump even acknowledged the other day that he knows what loss of the House will mean.

@beckyromero And yet you‘re rooting for the bill, huh? Well let them kill it and lose the midterms. For me it’s a win-win. For you it’s at least a win

Of course I want the subsidies to be funded. One needs to look at what the bill is about and who it is helping - and who will be hurting without the subsidies.

The Trump Senate will not pass this bill.
