Don't ya think, at the end of the day, Trumpism is about fear???

In Michigan, a woman who was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and who has ties to the Proud Boys has been hired to work with poll workers. In Florida, three people who were at one time associated with a splinter chapter of the Proud Boys extremist group signed up to serve as poll workers. One of them was explicitly rejected, given that he is under federal indictment related to the Capitol riot. The other two men are members of the Miami-Dade County Republican Executive Committee. Axios reported last month that the groups were making a concerted effort to be present as people vote.

Again, the ostensible motive for such observation is voter fraud — something that is vanishingly rare. It’s clear that this isn’t the only motive, of course; if the Proud Boys or others manage to affect whether someone actually casts a vote, it’s unlikely that they’d subsequently experience many qualms. We often talk about allegations of voter fraud as a conduit for challenging elections that have already occurred. What we’re seeing in 2022 is that those allegations are being used to potentially shape elections on the front end.

Whether it's justified fear, from centuries old conspiracies, or whatever, isn't my point.

I think Trump should get credit for identifying a weakness and exploiting it, regardless of his motives for doing it, or even whether he had a whole lot of help from others.

Americans covering up their license plates when they go to the polls, looking over their shoulders, and worrying about whose watching them seems like a big deal whether you call it an accomplishment or a tragedy.

You take credit for an innovation. Trump did not invent identifying weakness and exploiting. This is one of the tools of the trade of swindlers, extortionists, criminals, tyrants, from the beginning of time. Humans, especially the religious kind, are well conditioned to accept it, exploiting a weakness, is the very reason they accepted religion.
@Northwest Trump takes credit for everything and blame for nothing.

I'm giving him credit where I think credit is due, for doing what he does exceptionally well.

Sure, it's an old trade, trying to swindle other cave men out of their share of the communal hunt, but he really did take it to another level, getting to be POTUS, and the jury's still out on whether he can take it to the next level.

I feel a little amoral pointing out that morality is not everything, but I really don't think it is.

I don't ask my drill to think about the violence its doing to the wood when I use it. But if it does it's job well, I'll applaud it, use it again, etc.

I agree with you 100%. Trump, more than anyone else, has mastered the art of using fear to motivate his Cult. Fear of minorities, fear of Jews, fear of criminals, fear of Democrats taking away their guns, fear of people telling them they can't practice their religion, fear of others getting what they should get, etc. He has exploited this fear to tell them that their fears are justified, and ONLY Trump can help you allay those fears.

Probably 30 years ago, I participated in a marketing class on how to sell our services. We were told to create pain and anxiety for our customers by painting a fearful picture of what could happen, and then showing how our services would address that pain. That is the essence of Trumpism, and though the technique is well known and practiced for decades, Trump has mastered it better than anyone I have seen.

Yes. Trumpism, and conservatism in general, is DRIVEN by fear. That sits at the core. It's why it's difficult to get a conservative to talk about what they're 'for.' What they are is against things. And that's because of fear. It's the easiest emotion to attack and manipulate. It's what drives the concept of "enemy." Us vs. Them. And the biggest irony for me is that those who beat their chests about being strong are actually the weakest members of our society.

Maybe Trump was getting to close to draining the swamp and they are running out to cover their trail

@Tres13 We're trying to make America great again, but you people keep trying to make it worse.

Quit talking dirty now Misty@MistyCee
@LordShadowfire Lol. I thought I called him on that when I mentioned Frank Herbert.

Morgan Freeman really did throw me though, and I didn't want to seen unhip by failing to acknowledge the latest trendy rip off.

My kids burned me with Harry Potter on that, and at some point, I gave up the fight, and decided culture is inherently derivative.
Who else could double down on decades of lies, the Republican Fear Campaign. The Republicans looked washed up before 2016.
@Pitchblue Who could lie, with absolutely no proof, so many times that he could make Democrats look extreme AND make it acceptable for the Republicans to say Batshit Crazy things in an attempt to combat that extremisim. The base knows the MTGs the Hershal Walkers are full of shit but they just need to do that to win against the extreme left agenda.
@Pitchblue talking to yourself is creepy. Just saying and not judging, because I've done it myself.

Antifa has gone on record for stalking, harrassing, and assaulting Trump supporters.

Also nobody forgets how the left acted during covid and how now they want a call to amnesty. After being proven wrong and after the pfizer CEO confirmed the right's conspiracy theories to be true.

We can find people on all sides of the political spectrum with a complex that influences their views though. The far left is generally oversocialized and lacks real world experience cause they were spoiled by their rich parents.

@MistyCee I'm waiting for him to answer my question. Probably be waiting a while, right?
@LordShadowfire Hell if I know how long he'll take.

I'm off to go cook dinner, and if he's doing the same, more power to him.

Fear, that's what all politics are about these days. Whenever one side loses, they piss themselves and act like it's the end of the frickin' world. That's how tribalistic the American political climate is. It used to be "Well, we fought the good fight, but now we have to stand with our president and just hope for the best." Now it's, well, all of this piss-ant nonsense.
@sunsporter1649 The theme of my post is fear, and you posted Nancy as a witch. Thanks.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@MistyCee She isn't? I am shocked!
@sunsporter1649 I didn't say she wasn't. In case you missed it, I'm trying to present as positive a side to Trumpism as I can tonight, without vomiting.
