Don't ya think, at the end of the day, Trumpism is about fear???

In Michigan, a woman who was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and who has ties to the Proud Boys has been hired to work with poll workers. In Florida, three people who were at one time associated with a splinter chapter of the Proud Boys extremist group signed up to serve as poll workers. One of them was explicitly rejected, given that he is under federal indictment related to the Capitol riot. The other two men are members of the Miami-Dade County Republican Executive Committee. Axios reported last month that the groups were making a concerted effort to be present as people vote.

Again, the ostensible motive for such observation is voter fraud — something that is vanishingly rare. It’s clear that this isn’t the only motive, of course; if the Proud Boys or others manage to affect whether someone actually casts a vote, it’s unlikely that they’d subsequently experience many qualms. We often talk about allegations of voter fraud as a conduit for challenging elections that have already occurred. What we’re seeing in 2022 is that those allegations are being used to potentially shape elections on the front end.

Whether it's justified fear, from centuries old conspiracies, or whatever, isn't my point.

I think Trump should get credit for identifying a weakness and exploiting it, regardless of his motives for doing it, or even whether he had a whole lot of help from others.

Americans covering up their license plates when they go to the polls, looking over their shoulders, and worrying about whose watching them seems like a big deal whether you call it an accomplishment or a tragedy.

I agree with you 100%. Trump, more than anyone else, has mastered the art of using fear to motivate his Cult. Fear of minorities, fear of Jews, fear of criminals, fear of Democrats taking away their guns, fear of people telling them they can't practice their religion, fear of others getting what they should get, etc. He has exploited this fear to tell them that their fears are justified, and ONLY Trump can help you allay those fears.

Probably 30 years ago, I participated in a marketing class on how to sell our services. We were told to create pain and anxiety for our customers by painting a fearful picture of what could happen, and then showing how our services would address that pain. That is the essence of Trumpism, and though the technique is well known and practiced for decades, Trump has mastered it better than anyone I have seen.
