There was a cave that was rumoured to be apart of an underground cave system that ran underneath the Suburb of the town I grew up in. - Climb down a cliff, monkey along, wait for low tide, may need to hold your breath for a few metres before you get it there. - And since we had watched 'The Goonies' we thought we might get an adventure of our own. The tide was too high and my older brother said lets climb the cliff to the top. It was all jaggered sharp sandstone. I almost got near the top and fell. Don't worry the sharp stone broke my fall. Made it home covered in blood and told mum and dad I'd fallen off my bike.
A couple of other kids tried and was caught in there by the high tide and spent half the day waiting it out. So the council caved in the entrance to stop anyone from going in there again.

@Thevy29 caves can be really dangerous if they go a long distance like a tunnel

We do have a Tunnel but a short one. We also have a tunnel underneath Shasta Lake behind the Dam. About 6 years ago I was working Janitorial cleaning public bathrooms at the Truck stop.

It's uphill and there's an Area where you can see Shasta lake from uphill.

During the time there wasn't much rain during the rest of the seasons and the lake almost dried up. What I also saw is a Cave in the lower level to the point where the lake stands.

Loved that kind of stuff when I was a kid. Glad to hear he's having a healthy normal childhood.

@calicuz Kind of reminded me of the way we wandered around one summer when we lived in a small village, always walking for miles & exploring whatever we found.
I haven't heard of that in this area, however, a lot of spelunking abandoned buildings. I worked at a place that had an expansive campus, with most of the buildings shut down. We would go exploring some afternoon's through the warehouses and such. Never really found anything interesting, mostly just old abandoned office furniture.

Quite a few tunnels and caves here to explore. Most popular are the ones the government said is unsafe which so happens to be the ones they can't charge taxes on.

only tunnels around here are closed off/caved in mining tunnels from copper mine that shut down 60 years ago; according to my late grandfather who was a foreman in the mine, there's a mining cart full of gold buried down in one of the deep shafts from a cave in...🤔

If I were you, I would tell the boy, "Once and done." If any violent homeless, or even people on the run from the law had been living there, the boys might have been attacked.

@4meAndyou I told him that there could be a transient staying down there on drugs & violent and then they are in a tunnel where no one could hear them yell. And I’ve also told him that ex cons are attracted to campus areas (this tunnel goes from a housing addition to a business district near the campus) that hang out and try to befriend students. Not easy getting into the campus buildings like it was before to hang out so they may find tunnels to sleep in when it’s not raining. My friend was a janitor in one of the campus buildings and an ex con got out of prison and went into the building (an academic one) she worked in, she would get there about 4 in the morning and work. Someone was getting into her unlocked closet while she was working and taking the change out of her purse. Then a secretary came to her and asked if she knew anything about missing money in her desk. She told her that she had come up missing change in her purse more than once. So the campus police did a stakeout and caught this guy. He would leave before the office people got there and come back and hang out in the restrooms till the building was locked at night after milling around in town & eating meals at a nearby soup kitchen. He had been sleeping in the ceiling, it was a drop-down ceiling with acoustical tiles that could be removed. He would climb up on a secretary’s desk and get into the ceiling area and sleep there. The police found a dirty comforter and a pile of porn mags. Said he had a long rap sheet too.

@cherokeepatti It's amazing how people can live like rats in the ceilings. I have heard of people who sneak into houses and live very, very quietly at night in the attics...and in the day when everyone is gone to work they come downstairs and get water and food.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou Yeah I heard of that too. A woman thought there were rats in the attic and it was someone living up there. They’d leave while she went to work and let themselves in before she came home. Yikes.
