Today in hilarious bible passages: Joshua chapter 9

The story so far:

[c=#BF0000]The Israelites have been cutting a path of destruction through the promised land, mercilessly killing every man, woman and child that they find in the towns god promised to them.
The People of Gibeon see all this happening and so they pretend to be from a distant land so that the Israelites will make a peace treaty with them.
When the Israelites discover the deception they respond thusly:[/c]
Joshua called together the Gibeonites and said, “Why did you lie to us? Why did you say that you live in a distant land when you live right here among us? 23May you be cursed! From now on you will always be servants who cut wood and carry water for the house of my God.”

24They replied, “We did it because we—your servants—were clearly told that the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you this entire land and to destroy all the people living in it. So we feared greatly for our lives because of you. That is why we have done this. 25Now we are at your mercy—do to us whatever you think is right.”
Like no shit, Joshua! Why do you think they lied to the family butchering horde rampaging across their homeland? And then you get salty about it?!😂😭

Good stuff.

These were Nephilim tribes, hybrids between humans and angels that had become totally corrupted. Technically God didn't even want these people to exist. so...God was right in telling the Israelites to wipe them out. Enemy HUMAN tribes God did NOT tell the Israelites to wipe out their whole tribe, just defeat them in battle and then show mercy after the fighting is done.

I think that's open to an awful lot of interpretation but regardless, this isn't about justifying genocide. It's about how funny it is for the genocide to get tetchy at his victims for trying not to get slaughtered lol
@SpiritualMan God didn’t want them to exist and was unable to deal with it? Angels have genetic materials, don’t breed amount themselves and none of the angels were female lusting for human males to breed with. Zero remains because of the flood of course. What about the Neanderthal genes that turns up our DNA? Probably yours too.
@BlueSkyKing Neanderthals are fully human and thus any interbreeding with them doesn't offend God. Angels can also be called the "elder race". They most certainly can manifest in physical bodies, happened often in the bible. Sometimes they ate food. How do you KNOW they can't procreate.

God allows His creatures to use their free will to do things He doesn't want, and if they don't repent, He then brings judgment. God probably has prevented things from going too far, beyond a certain point, but God allows somethings to teach us important lessons we need to know for a better future.

God DID deal with it, He sent the flood and later told the Israelites to wipe out the giant tribes, that is HOW God dealt with it. Just because God didn't prevent it by snapping His fingers or didn't snap His fingers to make the ancient giants disappear into thin air doesn't mean that God DIDN'T deal with it. Right now we don't have giants running through our cities terrorizing us, they were not able to mess with the bloodline of Christ's ancestors, therefore God succeeded in preventing the objectives the fallen angels had in creating the giants.

Neanderthals were (past tense) descended from Adam and Eve? Along with all the hominids? How long ago was this? Were they sinful creatures too? How do you KNOW?

Angels manifested into human bodies (including navels) and get frisky? Have free will? They ate food though they didn’t need to? God didn’t know of the consequences and just let it happen?

What were the important lessons that we learned?
@BlueSkyKing I never said other hominids were sinful. I don't know if they were or not. They are variations of humans, they are fully human. I don't know if they are descended from Adam or an earlier form of humans.

Yes angels eat food even though they don't need to. They did so in front of biblical characters to demonstrate they were in physical bodies and really present. We will eat food in heaven in immortal bodies just because we will be able to and to enjoy food. If the only reason to do something in heaven is for pure enjoyment, then that is how it is going to be.

And yes, angels manifested in human bodies and got frisky. They weren't supposed to, they sinned when they did so, but they did so. God then punished that group of angels by throwing them into the abyss.

Angels ONE HUNDRED PERCENT have free will, that is why some of them sinned. It is BIBLICAL to believe that angels have free will, this I BELIEVE it as a cardinal doctrine of my belief system.

A big lesson may be to worship only God and make efforts to do what He wants us to do, if powerful and glorious angels have the free will to sin, it is a sign that ONLY God should be worshipped.

That's definitely a nice way of putting it.
