Today in hilarious bible passages: Joshua chapter 9

The story so far:

[c=#BF0000]The Israelites have been cutting a path of destruction through the promised land, mercilessly killing every man, woman and child that they find in the towns god promised to them.
The People of Gibeon see all this happening and so they pretend to be from a distant land so that the Israelites will make a peace treaty with them.
When the Israelites discover the deception they respond thusly:[/c]
Joshua called together the Gibeonites and said, “Why did you lie to us? Why did you say that you live in a distant land when you live right here among us? 23May you be cursed! From now on you will always be servants who cut wood and carry water for the house of my God.”

24They replied, “We did it because we—your servants—were clearly told that the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you this entire land and to destroy all the people living in it. So we feared greatly for our lives because of you. That is why we have done this. 25Now we are at your mercy—do to us whatever you think is right.”
Like no shit, Joshua! Why do you think they lied to the family butchering horde rampaging across their homeland? And then you get salty about it?!😂😭

Good stuff.
These were Nephilim tribes, hybrids between humans and angels that had become totally corrupted. Technically God didn't even want these people to exist. so...God was right in telling the Israelites to wipe them out. Enemy HUMAN tribes God did NOT tell the Israelites to wipe out their whole tribe, just defeat them in battle and then show mercy after the fighting is done.
Neanderthals are fully human and thus any interbreeding with them doesn't offend God. Angels can also be called the "elder race". They most certainly can manifest in physical bodies, happened often in the bible. Sometimes they ate food. How do you KNOW they can't procreate.
Neanderthals were (past tense) descended from Adam and Eve? Along with all the hominids? How long ago was this? Were they sinful creatures too? How do you KNOW?

Angels manifested into human bodies (including navels) and get frisky? Have free will? They ate food though they didn’t need to? God didn’t know of the consequences and just let it happen?

What were the important lessons that we learned?
@BlueSkyKing I never said other hominids were sinful. I don't know if they were or not. They are variations of humans, they are fully human. I don't know if they are descended from Adam or an earlier form of humans.

Yes angels eat food even though they don't need to. They did so in front of biblical characters to demonstrate they were in physical bodies and really present. We will eat food in heaven in immortal bodies just because we will be able to and to enjoy food. If the only reason to do something in heaven is for pure enjoyment, then that is how it is going to be.

And yes, angels manifested in human bodies and got frisky. They weren't supposed to, they sinned when they did so, but they did so. God then punished that group of angels by throwing them into the abyss.

Angels ONE HUNDRED PERCENT have free will, that is why some of them sinned. It is BIBLICAL to believe that angels have free will, this I BELIEVE it as a cardinal doctrine of my belief system.

A big lesson may be to worship only God and make efforts to do what He wants us to do, if powerful and glorious angels have the free will to sin, it is a sign that ONLY God should be worshipped.
@Pikachu
I think that's open to an awful lot of interpretation...
That's definitely a nice way of putting it.

Christians are idiots

@Pikachu I am so sick of them shoving their beliefs down my throat my whole life and I have had it up to HERE with their agenda to force their religious beliefs on others who don't agree. They're IDIOTS who don't know how to think critically. Adults who believe in magic are fucking fools.
@Doomflower I understand the frustration of living in a place where Christianity is forced upon you but remember that for every proselytizing Christian there are more who are just practicing their faith normally

@Pikachu those "normal" ones provide the background support for the bad ones. There are no good Christians. Just because they're not actively doing harm, they contribute passively by supporting their sick religion.

They are all morally reprehensible for their worship of a god that accepts human sacrifices. Like, holy shit. Back when I was a kid during the satanic panic they projected literally every icky part of christianity onto others. Abortions and rape and human sacrifice are all things that christians accused "cults" of doing these things and yet are ok with as long as their god commands/does it. They think the greatest expression of love is the most gruesome human sacrifice by torture. They are deplorable for accepting this crap. Evil is as evil does and Christianity is clearly evil as evidenced by its effects and they support it therefore they are doing evil.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just not going to "agree to disagree" with people anymore. Christians and republicans are both evil and I know that is emotional and might sound crazy but this is me losing it. I'm done with tolerating one of my greatest sources of pain.
Reads just like mythology.
@BlueSkyKing
The Bible reads like mythology? Absurd!
You going to do this with a book of another faith next?
@BritishFailedAesthetic

If i read it, sure.
Don't get so precious about it, kiddo. Christianity is the dominant religion in the english speaking world so of course that's going to be the one we talk about.
It's a funny passage. Lighten up😉

This is Bibi’s precedent?
@Human1000 righteous genocide is pretty par for the course, biblically speaking.
