Luke 16:18 Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Hokey religions have no place in the 21st century. We should be past all this nonsense by now, instead of shaming people in to staying in loveless marriages.

So here's where I really struggle with this. I have a friend who met his future wife in their twenties. She had been married before, but then the guy turned verbally and physically abusive. This is a side he had not shown until AFTER they married. She wisely got out and got divorced, and cut all ties with him. Later she married my friend. Almost thirty years later, they're still happily married and have two beautiful grown daughters, both of whom are now in healthcare and will make the world a better place. I just can't imagine that God would have wanted her to stay with someone who hid their true self from her and turned out to be a literal monster, and I also have a really hard time believing that He would want her to stay single for life (unless he died) because he had deceived her.

Considering the US divorce statistics, I’d say the Bible Belt isn’t as godly as it likes to tell people.

And those who live together unhappily commit treason against love. Found in the book of life experiences.

Ok, feel free to stay married to someone who don't love you if you want.

The rest of us who'd use Luke 16:18 at most for wiping our godly rear will be able to choose - free from any religious obligation coming from religions that don't interest us - what to do in such scenario.

Interesting. What do you think of woman who divorces her husband and then is in a relationship with someone for about a year then gets back with her husband. Also when I was young i used to read a word called 'Animal husbandry' and that had nothing to do with man, woman or marriage. 😝
