I have never liked going to church, I'm not one of those people that say if it's not in the bible, then it's not true or real. I can't stand people who only think all the answers about God and the afterlife are only in the bible. My mind expanded a little bit further after reading some of Sylvia Browne's first books. Then it went from there. I even wrote my own book. It's on amazon (for kindle only) it's titled "Everything you don't believe is real"
@Diotrephes You are so ignorant of the words of Jesus that you are now becoming incoherent . Jesus never lied when he said he was the son of God. What you call becoming out of reality is reality for me. The main man as you say using metaphors is a way of communicating with his 'flock' Because you are not part of this communication you can never interpret anything. it's this lack of understanding where you are on thin ice. Nothing you have said yet makes sense in your literal world. That the difference between you and people with faith
@usher OK, we can use all of the English translations and if you will be so kind as to post one or more that will support your opinion I will appreciate it.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to to display your persuasive skills so please stay engaged in the discussion.
And while you are at it, please explain why you think Jesus was blowing hot air about being able to command a tree to uproot itself and to jump into the sea but you believe him when he said that you can gain eternal life if you drink his blood and eat his flesh.
@Diotrephes You mention parables, but I was not referring to parables alone. I never said Jesus was blowing hot air when he spoke about faith. I truly believe in the sentiment as a reality . He was emphasizing the power of faith. I'm not going to try to convince you or convert you as you already are not chosen to understand. You are the kind of person that needs proof and nothing else will do. When I read the word of jesus I understand (interpret ) it differently than you . It's nothing to do with English. Eating his body and blood is akin to saying if you do what he preached, then yes you will have eternal life. Whats complicated about that? surely you see its logic. It's folly to try to convince an Atheist about faith or interpretations. Besides ,I am convinced that you can't understand the teachings of Jesus
@Rhode57 Thank you . What I really meant is that I so much believe in what I do that I don't feel the need to look further. But I understand you sentiment
@kodiac It's the religious people (priests , nuns , popes) that have misinterpreted the truth and tried to pass it on to people. If religion had the right people then religion would have different meaning. But try to not see religion the same as the people who preech it
@usher IMO, I understand the teachings of Jesus very well. If you desire we can move this discussion to my thread = Let's Do A Critical Analysis of the Bible and we can go deep into the subject.
@Pfuzylogic You claim to believe in God but you refuse to believe that you are being tested like Job was. All I'm doing is trying to have a discussion with you so why are you fearful about having a meaningful dialogue?
@Diotrephes You project quite a bit. I have no fear discussing Faith. All I see is you making false accusations. This is nowhere near the level that Job was tested. You flatter yourself.
@usher but I like that. I like the consciousness and finding out more about it either through science or internal reflection. Or just reading about stuff from different cultures etc.
@Carlisle Yes. When people talk to God they are speaking to a great consciousness, that embodies the Universe. A lot of different cultures have the same idea of God
i won't bother asking which god. essentially, i'm an agnostic atheist. i prefer to align myself with a philosophical system of beliefs born of Confucianism called Taoism. Tao Te Ching is the only philosophical, nee spiritual, text i've come across that speaks to me. meditating on ancient Zen writings centers and grounds me like nothing else i've encountered on earth.
Although I can understand why a belief in some god or goddess, single or plural, has always been near-universal in humanity generally, I have never found a personal need for it.
I try not to. I believe in a lot of things but not in a god like that. I see no reason. Although everyone around me seems to want me to believe. I don’t understand it, I guess and I have no interest in trying to either.
No but I do believe that thousands of years ago this planet was visited by beings from other planets and thats where their belief in gods that came from the sky comes from .
@zonavar68 God does not have a body like humans. God is neither he nor she. I used He but I could easily have said 'it'.But that feel derogatory. SO now you know.
