The one that allowed Jesus to die for our sins, yes.

@Pfuzylogic Wasn't Jesus God too ?

@usher
That would be true, a part of the Trinity that authored creation.

@Pfuzylogic Agreed
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher I do believe the Old Testament is literal and not metaphorical.
usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic I understand your view, but I'm the opposite, I believe that it totally metaphorical ( only the old testament)
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher The Old Testament was a Covenant covered in innocent blood.
It can not bear false witness.
It can not bear false witness.
usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic Yes, I agree but it tells the truth with metaphors to me
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher God covers what we don’t understand.
usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic Again I agree, I believe that God uses our own interpretation as a way of communicating with us. The New testament is literal. The old testament symbolic
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher The Holy Spirit intervenes when the Word is more than human understanding or interpretation.
We are not without a divine resource.
We are not without a divine resource.
usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic Yes, I think God speaks to us sometimes in Metaphors, but he knows that his sheep understand his voice
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher I have experienced real life parables that helped me endure.
Would you consider a parable and a divine metaphor to be equivalent?
Would you consider a parable and a divine metaphor to be equivalent?
usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic Yes of course. Jesus spoke in Parables and they had a deeper meaning than literal meaning
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher In that same way metaphors permeate the New Testament. I find God in the Old Testament can be characterized in a poor light if missing the hermeneutical lens of Jesus.
usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic yes, there are many different interpretations, but the truth will always be known by the children of God. They are the ones who know the truth no matter what anyone else says about it
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher
I look at our Father like the Father we do or would want to have. One that is always honest but knows how to protect us.
The Holy Spirit that inhabits us is truth.
However God does not impose his will on his children. He allows us to choose our own lives. Isn’t that why Jesus died for us, because of how we wrestle with God and try to impose our own will over the Father?

@Pfuzylogic Yes, I don't think God imposes his will on ours. I believe that he says the truth as it was meant to be understood just as you would tell your child the truth. The child might not understand you 100% but he will know what you're telling him. You child might interpret it slightly

@usher
I totally agree with this.
When I tried to understand the Old Testament it took a lot of Faith because as a confirmed Lutheran I was taught that the New Testament discarded the Old Testament. While Jesus did create a new Word, a Gospel; I found many truths in the Old Testament I needed to understand to give me peace and self control.

@Pfuzylogic good for you that you read both testament s and came up with the answers you needed to know. I hope you find the same truth as i did that we both searched for.
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher
God is very gracious and will not force his will upon us. When I say “his” it is through the understanding that God literally formed Adam out of the dust of Earth and breathed life into Adam. Jesus was “the second Adam” for our salvation.

@Pfuzylogic yes, of course , that is one interpretation. If it's what God tells you that that is the truth its good that you believe it. I interpret it differently, but that's not my argument
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher That is what a literal and not metaphorical understanding of the Old Testament will do.
There will be differences.
There will be differences.
usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic Yes, that's why I read the old testament as metaphorically. There are so many interpretations
Pfuzylogic · M
@usher
The many interpretations are created by humans. There is one truth.
I do appreciate this exchange.

usher · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic of course, I understand that. It's just human nature to interpret it differently. But each one of us believe it is God given(the interpretation)
