If the bible is the inerrant word of god, how do Christians reconcile the obvious edits to the word?

Example: Remember that inspiring story about Jesus and the adultress? He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her?
NEVER happened, even in the context of the NT as a true history.
In the oldest Greek manuscripts, this story doesn't appear. It was added in later versions.

What's up with that?

God foresaw those coming and made sure they'd still be interpreted correctly after the edits.
You don't think a deity would be able to do that?
Of course deity would be able to do that. But when the salvation or damnation of its beloved souls are on the line, why would it do that?
The edits aren't destroying his word, it is making sure it gets communicated as he planned.
So god intended that we should add to his word?
I think the bible disagrees with you on that one...but maybe you're adding that in accordance with god's plan? lol
“Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. [c=800000]You shall not add to it[/c] or take from it"
"[c=800000]Do not add to his words[/c], lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar."
"[c=800000]You shall not add to the word[/c] that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you."
You're still missing the point. This isn't an edit, it's an [c=800000]addition[/c].

Stop making excuses.

@Pikachu Listen dude, I don't believe in any gods. Your question isn't a gotcha though. It just isn't. It's really fucking easy to explain that. You aren't going to convince anyone with that who doesn't already think that their deity is weak.

Dude, "edit" was your word, not mine. Put addition in there, it's all the same shit to me.
@SW-User

I didn't intend it to be a gotcha. I wanted to hear how Christians reconcile such obvious edits to what they consider to be the word of god.
If it's so easy to explain then i would have expected you to be able to manage it...but you didn't. You just assured me that it's no big deal.
lol maybe next time think things through before you fire from the hip😉

Protestants have justified it by saying that story really happened and we know this because it has ancient origins, God just added it to his book later. Protestants sometimes speak about the Bible like it's a living document which God can add to, much like Americans see the Constitution as a living document which can be amended. Which is ironic, because the Bible itself says that it's a huge sin for anyone to add to it. Kinda funny, since so many people have added to it through the years.
As for Roman Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox, they say the Bible is imperfect because it was collected by humans. What really matters to them is tradition. Also funny, because their traditions have changed over the centuries.
@PrincessAwesome

lol i love the Mormons.
Imagine basing your religion on the word of a convicted con-man who definitely found some golden tablets and no you can't see them and kept getting "revelations" from god about how important it was that he have a lot of wives.
PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
@Pikachu God wants me to have a lot of wives. And they have to be young and hot. Hey, I don't make the rules.
@PrincessAwesome

lol Poor Joseph Smith. A slave to god's will

Lots of stuff like that. Plus there is more than one "Bible" -- different sects have different versions.

@Pikachu And even when scholars point out the mis-tranlations made hundreds of years ago, people won't believe it. I mean, how hard is it to see that "It is easier for a rope to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God" is so much saner than that whole shove the camel through a needle's eye concept?
@ChipmunkErnie

lol oh i'd never heard that. That is a much more sensible metaphor.
I mean a camel is more dramatic but a rope makes more sense.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Pikachu Yeah, current translators say the original reads rope. Just like Jesus walking "on" the water can also be translated a "by" or "along side" the water. And the word translated as "virgin" doesn't actually mean virgin. Etc., etc., etc. Or, going Old Testament, you can always read the story of The Flood in the much older version in THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH.
Christians have a short view of history. They think the Bible as it existed last Tuesday has existed since God created everything and handed Adam the first Bible.
@canusernamebemyusername

I do think that a lot of them don't consider that the bible was not written in english and in fact wasn't initially written down at all.

Gee,the omission changes everything..checkmate Theists
@bookerdana

Every Christian isn't educated.
Perhaps exposing them to such questions will help them gain a better grasp on the provenance of their holy book.

@Pikachu As a friend (who happens to be atheist) said,If everyone followed the Golden Rule the world would be a better place indeed🌍
