People knock Eyes wide shut but I actually rather like that one !
Kubrick at his mystical best and two of the worst actors in the leading roles !
Can you imagine any other two actors in those roles ? Not sure I can but it brought out the best in them.
Collateral was a decent movie.
Tropic thunder ? Brilliant make up and totally against type

@Nimbus Well... I think he's in more then "reasonably" good films though.

Jerry Maguire (1996)
The Last Samurai (2003)
Minority Report (2002)
... are pretty solid movies imo.
And then there is a bunch, like his "Mission Impossible" and "Jack Reacher" stuff. Or "Top Gun". Which I would consider less good as a movie, but still a good performance by him and imo entertaining action flicks. Which is kinda what that genre aims for.
And then there are a bunch of movies that imo just suck... but his performance is still on point. The most prominent example, is "Tropic Thunder", which I think is a bad movie. But Tom Cruise is just really good in that one. He's an actor that has the possibility too give a bad script a bit more flair. And I think that makes you a good actor. If you go over his list, you'll find more movies like that, where Cruise is just solid but the movie isn't.

@Nimbus If you never checked out his performance in Tropic Thunder... then maybe you need to start there. It's hillarious. Just don't watch the entire movie. Also check out "Robert Downey jr" in that one. Those two are the only reason to watch that movie.

His type-cast as an action hero feels counter-intuitive. He is a little man that wouldn't be able to scrap with most 8th graders. When he plays in romcom's and drama's that feels like it is a good fit for him but action here it just isn't believable.
