So Johnny Depp won…

Amber Heard defamed him….where? The op-ed doesn’t mention him at all? He won all that money because it was implied he abused her.
They’re both vile people, but sorry, this is a powerful, mega rich man who is seen as an excellent actor, who has public opinion on his side. The jury can see this and have bent if not broken the law to find in his favour.
Victims of abuse will be more afraid to speak out now. #MeToo has been set back years.

Nice one, America 😥
I am a fan of neither party, but I think this time the court worked the way it's supposed to work.

The objective for women is not preferential treatment, but equal treatment.
@Mamapolo2016 Exactly. Is that the narrative now, if a woman loses, regardless of her own behavior, is that now "a setback for all women" ? 🙄
@bijouxbroussard To the surprise of all of us, it will get politicized

shows you did not watch any of the trial at all. The evidence was overwhelming that she kept lying over and over again. She is not a victim, she is a abuser.
This is not a set back for victims of abuse. It is a step up for men who have been abused and ignored because they are men.
#MeToo was set back when women started using it as a weapon to ruin innocent mens lives. It was not ruined due to Johnny Depp
Torsten · 36-40, M
@thedreamer1975 and the abuser did not get away with it, so I really dont see this claim you're trying to make
thedreamer1975 · 46-50, F
Not this time, but it won't change nothing. Abusers are to clever especially ones like mine.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@thedreamer1975 hmm right
bugeye · 26-30, F
i went into the trial biased against Depp as a person but based on everything i saw in the trial i think the jury got it right.

i've always seen flaws in the Metoo movement in that while it can be used to give true victims a community of supportive people it can also be used as a weapon. never doubt the damage a mob mentality who thinks they're right can cause.
SW-User
@bugeye this article explains better than me, but essentially says the jury was successfully manipulated by Depp’s lawyers

What does Depp being rich and powerful or the public siding with him have to do with a circumvention of the law or justice?

You know what was actually a blow to MeToo? Amber Heard's attempt to leverage the movement for her own gain.
The jury found that her thinly veiled accusations of Depp were unsupported by any evidence she could present and are therefor defamatory.

It's women like her who do more damage to the MeToo movement than ANY rich and powerful man. Because every time a woman cries rape when there was no rape or abuse when there was no abuse...THAT makes it less likely that a real victim will be believed. THAT makes a real victim of abuse more afraid to speak out.

So yeah, NICE one America. This time you exposed a a woman who was poison both to her former partner and to victims of abuse everywhere.
The U.S. legal system has been guilty of many, many
miscarriages of justice since its inception.

Sorry, but this wasn’t one of them.

I agree the fact he made a fuss about that when he wasn't even mentioned shows he has a guilty conscience and yeah me being a victim of abuse, it definitely makes me think twice about speaking out, if Johnny has a guilty conscience then everything he said in court was lies which says in court the abuser will always win, and the victim will suffer more abuse and be classed as a liar.
thedreamer1975 · 46-50, F
@Slade not only that i had a fly buzzing around my head on afternoon and he was asleep on the sofa, i told the fly if it came near me again it was going to die, in other words i was gonna swat it, when he woke he told me he was going to have me arrested for threatening to murder him, what? I was talking to a fly.

@thedreamer1975 Acid is not a good thing...
thedreamer1975 · 46-50, F
@Slade what? You lost me.......
Both Depp and Heard are selfish nasty people. If the jury could have directed both payments to some charity for families, I'd be much happier.

I didn't listen to all the evidence, and I'm not a lawyer, so I have no reason to doubt that the jury did the right thing in finding Depp owed $2 million to Heard and Heard owed $15 million to Depp. Like I say, I'd be much happier if all the money went to some charity.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
I take it you disagree with the jury’s decision ?
You probably have better information and know the facts better than they did.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Onestarlitnight not top notch enough to escape a 2mill judgement against them. Depp got off Scott free.
@AthrillatheHunt
He'll net 8.35 million if she can pay

@Onestarlitnight minus lawyers fees. Lol

facts are that the truth has a certain ring to it. I never bought into her allegations she was an abused woman and neither did most people. He's not an abuser yet he isn't a monk practicing non violence. he falls in between those 2 choices. he's no saint but she's a fuckin nut. so the trial was pointless. In fact he looks worse now than ever.

another thing: she should never have identified as an abused woman when there are women who truly suffer at the hands of an abuser. clearly she wasn't one of them.
Mak03 · F
the #me too movement took the biggest hit when people are expected to take the woman's word for things when a president or judge from one party does something but when it is the other party the woman is automatically lying.
The stuff of National Enquirer headlines. 🥱
Fluffybull · F
@BizSuitStacy Yes, getting tired of it now. It's over, move on people.😴

Johnny is the abuse victim

So how does it set back me too?
SW-User
@SW-User then what is the legal threshold for defamation, cos it sure as hell hadn’t been breached in this trial.

Also, again, this trial was NOT about who abused who.
SW-User
@SW-User I just told you. You can look up the jury instructions yourself. I did.

Then i wondered if they are both playing the court just for the money and once things have settled down come back together.

@thedreamer1975 the money is coming from eachother, not the courts.

@thedreamer1975 I'm guessing you are not a legal scholar😟

@Slade no

I don't think this really set Depp back at all. He all ready has movie's planned. She will still be in Aquaman 2.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@smileylovesgaming apparently not anymore. There is talk of her being completely cut from it now
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Torsten last I heard she just has 10 mins in the movie

Well in summary the jury found that she fabricated domestic abuse and rape allegations and spread them maliciously to destroy JD

He got $10 million in damages for loss of financial opportunities and a further $5 million in personal pain and suffering (higher than the statuary cap of $350,000 - which it has been reduced to)

She won 1/3 counts. Basically they found that she did carry out a hoax but that when Wardman (Johnny's lawyer) described the way in which the hoax was carried out he was speaking as Depp's agent and the statement was false and said with malice

She got a $2 million award for damages and $0 for personal pain and suffering

Is #MeToo only for women?
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@SkeetSkeetGood point .
way more men are raped than women.

Some women (misandrists) would like it to be.

@SW-User Maybe more abused men will stand up to be counted, adding their experiences to #metoo.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@SW-User Men and women can be victimised and ridiculed if public opinion is against them.
