@Souls It is possible that it was a genuine accident, as claimed. The paparazzi were known to take dangerous risks as far back as the 1970's.
And bringing it back to Princess Diana to finish things off:-
Looking at the fact that other public figures were suffering such dangerous attacks so far back as the 1970's, you do have to wonder if the clock was always ticking and it was only a matter of time before a death was directly caused by the paparazzi doing what the paparazzi did???
It's also well known (and documented) that Marilyn Monroe (Norma Jean) had a hellish time from the media as well.
Princess Diana's death was just the catalyst that forced changes that should have been made decades before and the media should not be allowed to hound people to the point of death in any form - including the latest tactic of using public smear campaigns to cast hate on the sick and disabled by spreading false information to stir up anger among the population.
Now, we have sick and disabled people afraid to leave home because they know they will be accosted by random members of the public, demanding to see "proof" of their disability. Like... "Wait a minute while I just pull out my brain and show you my cancer".
They don't feel safe in their own country and they can't emigrate to live the peaceful life that we are all entitled to by law.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Ron Galella (1970s): Widely called the "godfather of U.S. paparazzi culture," photographer Ron Galella made a career out of aggressively stalking Jackie Onassis. His tactics were so invasive that they led to landmark legal battles. In one infamous 1972 incident in Central Park, Galella jumped out from the bushes so aggressively to startle her that Onassis ordered her Secret Service/bodyguard detail to physically force him away and have him arrested. This resulted in a federal restraining order requiring Galella to stay 100 yards away from her—a distance he would famously test by carrying a tape measure down the street.
Marlon Brando Breaking a Photographer's Jaw (1973): Galella’s relentless pursuit wasn't limited to Jackie O. In 1973, after being ambushed and flashed repeatedly by Galella in a Chinatown restaurant in New York, actor Marlon Brando lured the photographer close under the guise of an interview, then punched him—breaking Brando's own hand and knocking out several of Galella's teeth. (Incredibly, Galella later started showing up to photograph Brando wearing an American football helmet for protection).
Richard Burton’s Security vs. Paparazzi (1974): Around the same era, Richard Burton's bodyguards delivered a severe beating to a photographer who crossed the line during an aggressive ambush, resulting in another hospitalized injury and a string of violent confrontations that defined 1970s celebrity culture.
And bringing it back to Princess Diana to finish things off:-
The Routine "Loon Attacks" on Princess Diana: Prince William and Prince Harry have spoken publicly about how the paparazzi treated their mother during their childhood. Photographers would deliberately swarm her vehicle, scream obscenities, spit, and intentionally try to trigger a public emotional breakdown—a tactic the tabloid culture openly referred to as a "loon attack" because photos of her crying or lashing out commanded astronomical payouts.
