About commuting

I will never accept a job that is more than 20 mins away from where I live. I mean why would you want to waste so much time in a car or on a bus or train or whatever?? That's taking sooo much of your time and you're not getting paid for it. 😒
I commute an hour to work when I am not working at home.

I guess I just felt that this job was one of those that I applied to without actually expecting to get it. So for the sake of my career and the salary it is worth the sacrifice.

It also helps that I love cars and have a car I actually like driving. I get what you are saying though, if it was a stupid job that I wasn't interested in and I had to drive a hyundai elantra for an hour every day, I also wouldn't think it is worth it.
I wholeheartedly agree.

I buy cars new.
I keep them serviced regularly and replace the tires when the 5y date codes indicate they need to be replaced.
I drive them till the "wheels fall off". Defined by me as "costs more to fix than the Blue Book says they are worth"

Average age of the two vehicles I just sold and replaced: 21 years
Mileage: 119K and 121K
Distance to work: 2 miles for her & I essentially work from home but need to drop stuff at the P.O. = 4 miles round trip for me three times a week.

I cringe when I hear people at get togethers mention that they work in Glendale or Phoenix and do the daily commute from the East Valley. The gas, the wear and tear on the vehicle, the morons in the next lane..... I thank God I have skills and can work from home.

I know a guy, now retired, whose commute was 4 hours one-way. It was an hour and a half in his car then two and a half hours by train to work. He was able to work from home twice a week - this was before COVID - so I suppose that helped.

I agree that 20 minutes is a good maximum. I'm at about 25 now since our office moved earlier this year.

I agree with you, but if you have a really nice car… with those massaging seats… and good music on… 🤷‍♂️

@Spokeskitties75 nope. Even with all that, I'm losing money and time. Not worth it.

I agree. Right now I still have no choice but to walk it off like 3km from my place.
@Sepia Waking is good exercise....

But so is getting in and out of trikes or GRABS.....

Haha

Unfortunately, the only places where I can make money in my industry are all in cities. I live in the suburbs and would never move. So....commute it is. Zero money or job security otherwise, not that there is any job security in broadcasting.

I had a job an hour and half away when I moved and one day after fighting traffic and angry I pull into work and no one was there yet even tho I was late. I. Waited half hour and drove back home never to return
