My religion teachers at school always described heaven as a state of total bliss for the soul. They said it's not supposed to really be a place. I'd guess if one made it to heaven then they trust god completely and also by definition, there are no worries or bad feelings there, only joy. Also maybe people (or souls to be more accurate) are detached there, like maybe there is no way of knowing who is or isn't there with you. It's not like souls would gather every Sunday for dinner or something.
I'm not religious myself, that's just what I understand having grown up being surrounded with the christian orthodox faith.

I think that based on the descriptions of heaven in the Bible that it's definitely really a place.
There are houses and streets and vineyards etc.
And honestly even if that were not the case, the blissed out, disconnected ecstasy sounds kinda creepy.
Like Matrix vibes or a holy lobotomy.

@Pikachu yeah I think many of them aren't strict with scripture because they can tell it's nonsense. At least that's been my experience with the religion in my country. The irony is they call denominations that strictly follow the Bible heretics, like Jehova's witnesses for example. Kinda hypocritical but I'm also glad they're not so uptight about it. They mostly care about the traditions, which sometimes contradict their own religion.

couldn't describe it any better. When I first started questioning the faith I was wondering what's so bad about wanting to pursue knowledge. Like why was it forbidden to eat from the tree. That never sat right with me. There is a saying in my language that's always used in this context but it can have the opposite meaning by just adding a comma. It's "Πίστευε και μη ερεύνα" οr "Πίστευε και μη, ερεύνα". First one means "Have faith and don't question", second one means "Whether you believe or not, question".@HannibalAteMeOut
lol that's great. A huge difference in perspective.

Perhaps, those are the tears that God wipes away from thier eyes ?
And God will wipe all tears from thier eyes and there will be no pain nor death.
Not pretending to know ,that was just my first thought.
It says the old things will pass away and all will be made new.

It wouldn't bring you pain. But would you want that?
Just be honest with me. That person you love...would you be ok with even the memory of them being taken from you?
if you don't remember how can it bring you pain?

@Pikachu Already experience the death of my mother .
In this world no.
I am honest.
You asked how you could stand it , I gave my answer.
Continuing to debate will change niether of our minds.
My last thought on subject for this thread

I'm sorry to hear that.
I wouldn't want to lose the last i had of that person either.
So i think actually we are in agreement.
Have a pleasant evening.

I read a story that contained the bhuddist belief that we cannot follow our loved ones into the next life. It made me so sad. Perhaps we are surrounded by people we don’t remember in this life and the next.

The explanation is that since God’s justice is perfect, people in heaven look down with joy at their unsaved loved ones being tortured in hell for eternity.

@Pikachu I've never met anyone who told me that. I think most Christians would be disturbed if a close relative was an unbeliever as they wouldn't want to look down on them in hell. But I'm sure some of them are looking forward to it.

I'm quite curious. Do you really seek truth and want an answer for your purpose if this is a part of it?
Or are you steadfast and rather aim to make religious people doubt their religion to make them agnostic or atheist? Just a curiosity of mine?
I'll also engage the post if you'd prefer. I just wanna know your aim

@Iwantyourhotwife
My aim is the same as it is in the vast majority of my posts: To expose myself to different opinions and debate them where i find them worthy of debate .

"Or are you steadfast and rather aim to make religious people doubt their religion to make them agnostic or atheist? Just a curiosity of mine?"
I´m not atheist.
That said, I seriously doubt that to be exposed to open debates is or should be a problem for the ones that hold a faith.
Exception made, of course, for those that think that their own interpretations of whatever revelation / religious canon is also enough explanation for all, includding the natural world.
And said ones are also refractory to facts, so it´s probably a waste of time to debate with them.
But instead of being worried with an agnostic agenda (by the way, not the purpose of most of scientists) I think that are the above said religious ones (not at all most of religious people but of the narrow minded variety) the most effective atheist makers.
IF they were the very examples of faith (IMO they are not) THEN I would also doubt on the goodness being in such count.

Depends on your definition of heaven, God, etc.
In ours, you get to the afterlife as long as you were a decent person, irrespective of faith or lack thereof. As long as you weren't a complete psychopath in life, you should be fine when crossing the Chinvat Bridge.

Well if it was not sufficiently clear, we're talking about the Christian notion of heaven and god.
Your way sounds more reasonable though.
