life from outer space?

If we proved that life actually came from outer space would that be proof that God does not exist?
Hell no.
It might be proof that any creation story which does not include panspermia is false but discovering an alternate origin for life on earth is insufficient to disprove the existence of a supernatural creator.

@Pikachu I agree
@Millerdog
It would seriously fuck up Christian theology though lol.
Although evolution does that for a young earth creationist perspective and they get around it mainly by pretending it's not true.

@Pikachu sometimes people are too bound up in rules, when there are no rules. but people make rules through religion and labels

Im not an advocate for belief in deities nor do i believe in themself, but neither am i so narrow minded to think that its not possible one or more exist. When science advances, it only disproves small tidbits that humanity once believed for example that earth was flat or the center of the universe. It doesnt disprove the belief as a whole. But it does make continuing strides in the direction of "hey maybe everything we believe we know to be true isn't true" . One should keep an open mind but also not be influenced so easily. Rationality is your ally

@JestAJester yes both science and belief's continue to grow
“[R]eligion was the race's first (and worst) attempt to make sense of reality. It was the best the species could do at a time when we had no concept of physics, chemistry, biology or medicine. We did not know that we lived on a round planet, let alone that the said planet was in orbit in a minor and obscure solar system, which was also on the edge of an unimaginably vast cosmos that was exploding away from its original source of energy. We did not know that micro-organisms were so powerful and lived in our digestive systems in order to enable us to live, as well as mounting lethal attacks on us as parasites. We did not know of our close kinship with other animals. We believed that sprites, imps, demons, and djinns were hovering in the air about us. We imagined that thunder and lightning were portentous. It has taken us a long time to shrug off this heavy coat of ignorance and fear, and every time we do there are self-interested forces who want to compel us to put it back on again.”
― Christopher Hitchens, The Portable Atheist: Essential Readings for the Nonbeliever
No, it would be proof that the Bible is inaccurate.

No...

It's just an attempt to push back God further into the past so you can avoid thinking / dealing with Him... Saying that life came from space still done not establish how it came into existence in outer Space.. No matter how many eons or light years you push God away you still have to deal with the fact Life came into existence in the universe...
JestAJester · 31-35, M
@Adstar but how do you know? How do you know we can't fathom the explanation? Did God explain it to some poor sod one day and cause his brain to explode? You would think, the all powerful God, the designer of us and our brains, surely he designed our brains to be capable of such a thing?
Something cannot come into existence without a cause.
So what is the cause of God? I honestly want to know. I honestly want an explanation. And I acknowledge that nobody knows probably, but there must be an answer.

I'd just rather have all the facts before I commit my undying, unwavering loyalty to some random deity.

@JestAJester
So what is the cause of God?
See how the answer went over your head..

Here is the news.. You do not first demand to understand / know everything before you will believe anything in relation to God.. It does not work that way.. God inspires and enlightens those who are accepting of His truth.. The path to God is like a set of stairs.. Every step is a teaching a truth that a person must accept to take the next step.. God foreknows who is going to take those first couple of steps in Faith. Now when one has advanced half way up the staircase then the LORD reaches out to them and carries them up to the top of the staircase.. Those people who will never take the first steps never get to see the LORDs hand. They never get lifted up..
JestAJester · 31-35, M
@Adstar Answer didn't go over my head. Because its not really an answer. You might as well say "Because reasons..." There is no explanation behind it. That tells me you don't know either. You don't know why or how its possible that God is eternal. You just accept it and don't ask questions because you got it in your head that humans aren't worthy or capable of knowing the truth. Doesn't sound like a guy Id wanna worship if thats what he requires. Blind, unwavering loyalty. If hell is what I get for simply wanting to understand, then so be it.

You know the Romans and Ancient Greeks thought they knew too. They were pretty convince their Gods were real too. So did the Egyptians, Muslims, Shinto believers, Hindus, etc. Why shouldn't I believe any of them?
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
No. Some of the mainstream religions might struggle though.
redredred · M
Actually we live in outer space. Everywhere is outer space.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
Scientific research is not bussy on having proofs about the supernatural, not the ones against neither the ones supporting it.
The most it may happen is that while explaining the natural universe Science may dismount the kind of narratives that only part of religious people feel as needed for their faiths.
But this is a side effect, not at all a goal of Science.
I don't see how.

Not to any true believers: they can manage to make pretty much anything fit into their belief systems.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
No. We have one creator and he would just be an alien
Millerdog · 56-60, M
@Jenny1234 but would this alien have created the universe 🤔
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Millerdog it already did
cycleman · 61-69, M
Another god created the other worlds.
Millerdog · 56-60, M
@cycleman maybe the same God 🤷‍♂️
It would prove that any God who couldn't have created life anywhere off Earth didn't exist. Off hand, I can't think of any that would apply to
