We are fixin’ to find out and it’s going to be more than we imagined.

@Nimbus I’d have to have raised bed gardens built, and then there are places in the yard you can’t have anything due to gas or utility lines running underneath.. The back yard is shady half of the day. Have some figs growing, one grape plant and plums. The plums got frozen when they were blooming. The best way to grow stuff is to have an acreage and have a good well in case you need to water it.
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Is there a fruit/veg cooperative nearby where you could join?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nimbus I don’t think so. There used to be more local people making big gardens and selling produce they raised at decent prices directly to the public. You’d see hand-lettered signs by the road in front of their homes. They seemed to have died off by now. People who are growing stuff to sell will take it the Farmer’s Market and sell it there. They have to pay a fee up front to sell and that adds to the cost of what they sell. Everything is grossly overpriced. I went one time last summer and didn’t buy a thing. About 10 years ago I would go fairly often and always came home with several things. I would love to see old-fashioned fruit stands like they used to have. It gets so hot here that many people are not cut out for standing out in the heat all day and it’d probably not good to have fruit out there. Maybe they could sell early in the day. I saw those stands out in the agricultural areas of California and people were stopping to buy. We stopped at a couple of them, the prices were decent. But the temperatures are much milder compared to Oklahoma.
