Is not collecting stamps considered a hobby?
Is not playing soccer considered a sport?
Is not delivering mail considered a job?
If not, then how is not believing in a god considered a belief?

@TinyViolins I rest my case.

@Ducky The only thing you really proved is that you don't know what the word 'atheist' means
Really · 80-89, M
@TinyViolins It isn't about those - it's about no one who doesn't not have beliefs about atheism. Sort of like the opposite of when you can't recall if you've forgotten to not remember failing to remind yourself about something you didn't understand anyway.

1. there's no proof that gods exist
2. there's no proof that gods don't exist
3. in any event, there’s no compelling necessity to even postulate gods, and the postulation explains nothing (not even itself)... it merely tries to explain everything away.
4. therefore, I have no gods (I’m an agnostic atheist)
Can you find anywhere in there where I say there are no gods?

@newjaninev2 I used to say I'm an agnostic who finds atheism a temptation

“I believe in evidence. I believe in observation, measurement, and reasoning, confirmed by independent observers. I'll believe anything, no matter how wild and ridiculous, if there is evidence for it. The wilder and more ridiculous something is, however, the firmer and more solid the evidence will have to be.”

@newjaninev2 Good quote. I'd add my own reason based on my own experience.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@alan20 That’s not evidence
alan20 · M
@newjaninev2 Not objectively - I agree, but I'm a creature of instinct. What feels right for me is right. Maybe it's the scientific mind versus the artistic and I'm a musician, hopefully a spontaneous one. I feel that the essence of the Christian religion is masochism and basically unhealthy.

Athiesm is just a-theism. The belief in no gods/dieties. It doesn't mean none belief in anything. So by your own logic I'm afraid your statement kinda shoots itself in the foot.
DocSavage · M
No one says Atheists don’t have beliefs. We have plenty, god just isn’t one of them.
BlueSkyKing · M
I have many beliefs. Evidence for example. My working adage is: If it’s not science, it’s superstition.
Do any claims have any magical claims involved? Yes, then I’m not interested.

when people say they believe in god. which does not exists it is called....
Delusional disorder, People who have it can't tell what's real from what is imagined. Delusions are the main symptom of delusional disorder. They're unshakable beliefs in something that isn't true or based on reality.
No God means the possibility of less suffering in the future. Believing there is no God gives me more room for belief in family, people, love,

Do you know what a strawman is?
Saying that they believe gods do not exist, is not the same as saying that they claim they have no beliefs.

@Northwest Don't expect to get through OP's thick rubber squeaky head.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
Yes I agree, there's no proof that God doesn't exist so believing so takes a step of faith!!

Really? So if you lack a belief in George the Galactic Troll, the god of the Trollsbytarian religion, then it is your belief that he doesn't exist? Am I getting this right? Even if you've never heard of George the Galactic Troll before I brought him up, you already have a belief about him?
You're the one who lacks logic.

Aww. Ducky is taking a break from Similar Worlds. I hope I didn't have anything to do with that.
