I'm not anti-turtle, but why do they live so long?

Our local turtles are having a hard time. The lay their eggs, cover them up, and then a raccoon or other animal digs them up and eats them.

They eat tomatoes and strawberries too, little thieves. The bad thing is they’ll take one bite out of a tomato and then go to a different plant, take a bite out of another tomato and keep doing it over and over.
