do you have lots of bunnies in your neighbourhood? we had tons in the place i used to live at. i'm surprised we didn't have more coyotes, bald eagles and raccoons...they would have had a feast
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@beermeplease we have so many bunnies in our neighbourhood. We also live just a couple of blocks away from a ravine where we have coyotes, and sometimes the coyotes walk our streets. We also have deer that sometimes wander around the street that runs along the ravine

Cute!

Nice. We have three backyard chipmunks that have begun to come running to the back porch whenever we step out to put out seeds for the birds -- and the chipmunks. It's nice that they'll stay just a few feet away, waiting for the seeds.

Whatever you do, don't pick up that rabbit or even pet it. I lived on a farm as a kid and one day I brought home a baby wild rabbit. The next morning, I couldn't breathe. I ended up in the hospital for a week after having contracted a virus which was linked directly to that wild rabbit. Cute to watch from a distance but be mindful.

The more common name for this virus is 'Pleurodynia'. The first thing the doctor asked when I arrived at the hospital, was if I'd had any physical contact with any wild animals within the previous week, such as at a petting zoo or from small animals?
When he learned of the wild rabbit episode the day before, he began treating for the known viruses wild rabbits carry and got it right the first time.
Wild mice known as 'field mice' are also carriers of viruses, typically found in their feces as with all wild animals. Never handle dead mice with bare hands when disposing of them from a mouse trap, which means always wear disposable gloves. Then, wash your hands immediately after handling using paper towel to dry your hands, then dispose of the paper towel in the garbage.
Don't use a cloth hand towel to dry your hands after washing them from handling wild animals, rodents or their fecal matter.
