Baby Kangaroos are called Joeys.
They spend the first 8 months inside their Mother's Pouches, After which they will poke their little heads out to take in the world around them.

When they stop drinking Mother's milk they become Kangaroos. Which can be up to 18 months.

@Peaches We can not imagine the terror and extreme pain those poor critters went through, and continue to go through with every fire.
Good news, some of the most severely injured Koalas were returned to the bushland 12 months after the event.
Dedicated volunteers nursed them back to health.
16 were released early this week.
