When I was a kid I was afraid of bees, but eventually came to love and appreciate them

And.. now I'm back to square one

Not scared, yet have a certain respect for bees.

I'll say this for certain, even swarms yellow jackets don't bother me much. Yeah I might get bitten by a couple. Yet for some reason they really don't attack me like others.

Yellow jackets are meat eaters. So they will bit me. Yet I don't get stung. I was the only person that could close the trash bins when closing when yellow jackets were swarming.

I believe they can tell if you're scared.

@DeWayfarer yeah, I'm only playing it up. I do like bees still.

Wasps always make me uneasy

I like bees but I do understand that they're VERY protective of their loved ones and their food included... Understandable because their food is the product of the nectar, godlike, ..

Now these particular bees uh, I'll just pretend I don't know about their existence, just like I did before .. :)

@being life was just a little bit more comfortable 3 minutes ago

At the age of 4,I got stung on the top lip when I leant down to sniff a flower in my grandparents' garden - my grandmother had invited me to smell the nice aroma of a dahlia in bloom, without noticing that there was a bee in it.I wasn't too keen on bees for some time after that, but all good now - over 70 years later!

@craig7 That reminds me of an old joke.

Billy comes running into the house, crying. His mother asks what's wrong. He says, "I bent over to smell a brose!"

His mother said, "You mean rose. There's no b in rose."

"There was in this one!" cried Billy.
Yikes ! I give bees a wide berth simply because I’m allergic to their stings. Even so, I’ve always respected their role in nature.
But I admit, I didn’t know about these fellows. 😳
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@bijouxbroussard that's a fair reason. And I just found out these guys existed today
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard I'm not allergic to bees, but I know well enough to keep my distance at the first sight of them.
@Sidewinder One of my sister’s in-laws is a beekeeper. As many times as my sister has visited, she has never been stung.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
I'm 38 (going on 39) and still afraid of bees.

It's just that when I was 12, I was stung by a bee.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@Sidewinder I don't blame you. I know they hurt
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Okay, so that's gross, but not a reason to be scared of the little guys. I tell you what it is. Being chased by a big old loud bumblebee when you're 5 years old, and then in high school seeing somebody swarmed by not one, but two yellowjacket swarms because they went to the toolshed out back and through a big heavy shovel down hard enough to break both nests that were under the shed that they didn't know about.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@caPnAhab Yeah, sorry. I kind of killed the vibe there a little bit. That is an absolutely gross picture.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@LordShadowfire don't worry about it, you're fine

Once I got ambushed by a bunch of wasps hiding in a fence post. No good 👎
@LordShadowfire @caPnAhab Yellow Jackets are the most relentless in my experience. Accidently walk too close to a nest and they are on you and keep coming.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I am so glad I don`t eat honey.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Damn that must have you reading ingredients all the time.
@Degbeme Yes…one of the first classes I took after being diagnosed taught about what some common commercial ingredients really are, and even what fruits are safer (some are lower in sugar than others). It was an eye-opener.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard No doubt it was.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Delicious.....
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@ArishMell I wonder who had the morbid curiosity to try and eat this
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@caPnAhab Mmmmm. Not something I'd try! Perhaps it was learnt from some culture where this had been disovered back in the mists of time.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@SomeMichGuy I'm not saying any animal can be evil, but that thing looks down right evil
@caPnAhab Very odd and I'll put it in the "to avoid" bucket.
YoMomma ·
Yikes lmao 😅 reminds me of Samson who took honey from a beehive in a dead lion's carcass 😅
YoMomma ·
@caPnAhab it's in the bible .. he killed the lion with his bare hands 🙂
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@YoMomma I assumed so, I just don't remember that story
YoMomma ·
@caPnAhab it's been awhile since i've read any of it myself too.. i guess he was kinda a terrorist really 😒
