Do y'all remember the destroyed bird feeder that i showed you.

I was certain it was a bear. Well there was this at 7pm last evening.
I reckon he decided to come before i moved his snacks inside😯
He is magnificent. Around where I live, people feed birds in the summer too. So bears rob the feeders. Birds need food in the winter. They can live fine the rest of the seasons on their own. I have gardens with flowers the birds like and I leave them up all winter for picking. Nice photo.
@Carla Bears like easy pickings. Bird feeders are take-out. Thank you for thinking of the bears.

@PoetryNEmotion I love the wildlife here. And I believe bears to be our brothers. This brother needs to stay on his side of the fence!
@Carla I replied below. Fences mean nothing to bears. Thank you for respecting and caring for wildlife.
Piper · 61-69, F
Yes, and that several people doubted your certainty. I'd feel awe and probably some fear also, if I saw one in my backyard. Not afraid for myself, so much, but that the bear would return while my little dog was outside.

I hope your plan of the bringing the bird feeders in before dusk works, my friend. As thrilling as it is to see a wild bear that close, your concern for the dogs is surely justified.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Piper I've decided to just ground feed till late fall. If he came as early as seven, if he's hungry and it's five, i don't know why he wouldn't slip out of the woods for a quick snack.
But the seed is only a portion of the problem.
Grapes and apples. 😕
Piper · 61-69, F
@Carla He might. I understand that it's a tough situation for you, and would be for any of us who share your liking and respect for wildlife.
Repete · 61-69, M
He was just trying to let you know the treats were all gone so you could refill.

I think I’m happy now with just my pesky squirrel 🐿 telling me my bird feeder is empty. 😂
Nice picture picture wait until the whole family shows up.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Repete my late mother used to feed a large number of raccoons. They are fun to watch.
Repete · 61-69, M
We rescued a little baby one, it’s mom got hit by a car, and we had him for about a year or more then he left but when he came back he had three babies. Maybe he wasn’t a he 😂 @Carla
Carla · 61-69, F
@Repete yeah, maybe not😆
CestManan · 46-50, F
Bears are a noble site but only from a distance.
Carla · 61-69, F
@CestManan thirty feet from my back door!
Northwest · M
Awesome. I'm afraid he's gotten himself accustomed to it, and he's going to be back :-( Stay safe!
Carla · 61-69, F
I'm afraid so, @Northwest. No more seed, but apples and grapes, very soon.
meggie · F
Great photo. Does this kind of bear kill you? I love bears but have never lived near them.
Carla · 61-69, F
@meggie thank you. It was pretty easy getting the shot. He was very close.
Yes. These bears can kill you. But really, they have no desire to do so. But will if threatened or cornered.
The mama bears will take a person out in a blink if she feels her cubs are threatened.
meggie · F
@Carla occasionally cattle will kill if their young is threatened too. Lovely to have these creatures on your doorstep
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
Yogi Bear must be on a crash diet. Going from picnic baskets to bird food.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Barefooter25 it wasnt even full. I think he was remebering the full one he helped himself to a month ago.
And I think boo boo helped yogi way more than he would admit🙃

Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Its that bright at 7pm?
Carla · 61-69, F
@Thevy29 i live in western michigan. It doesn't get dark right now till 10pm.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@Carla How long till the sun comes up?
Carla · 61-69, F
@Thevy29 right now, the sun is actually above the horizon, around 6am. Of course it starts getting light sooner.
Actual sunset, around 9:30 or so.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
He just wants to play with you.
Carla · 61-69, F
@assemblingaknob yeah...nope!
He is hungry😬
Carla · 61-69, F
@Furiosa they are always hungry!
They are huge
They need tons of food😵
Carla · 61-69, F
@Furiosa they sleep for a long while. They need to EAT!
I hold no animosity towards him. He is just doing bear.
SW-User
What kind of pigeon is that? 🤔 I only get pigeons in my garden so I'm assuming it's a pigeon
Carla · 61-69, F
@SW-User well...it is a big one.

That booger
RedBaron · M
You sure it wasn't 7 pm in the morning? 😂😂
RedBaron · M
@Carla You specified "7 pm last evening." Just making sure.
Carla · 61-69, F
@RedBaron it was indeed, last evening.
RedBaron · M
@Carla As indicated by PM.
nacnud · 36-40, M
I think you have the evidence. Squirrels are usually the main culprit in the UK.
melbeacher · 61-69, M
TheLordOfHell · 41-45
That's a big boy
Carla · 61-69, F
@TheLordOfHell he is. But i think still a young one.
TheLordOfHell · 41-45
@Carla Wow he still has some growing to do, in that case. Be safe!
Carla · 61-69, F
@TheLordOfHell oh, i will. Taking precautions now. I don't have a sight line from the house to the back fence. So yeah...verrryyy careful...

@Stereoguy ground feeding till winter. No suet. But I will miss my woodpeckers😕

@Stereoguy black bears are very good climbers.
And im old sg. They go through two blocks of suet every other day. Having to haul and climb a ladder every other day isn't a task I wish to undertake. Come late fall, i will resume the feasts..

@PoetryNEmotion it isn't cruel. It's cruel to use chemicals or spikes. I won't do that. But I have small dogs that have free access to the back yard. I spent thousands to fence the yard for them.
I yelled and banged a pot to get this guy to go, he did,but was very casual about it. A good scare might make him second guess a return visit.
@Carla The bear doesn't care whose backyard it is. As long as bird feeders are there, he will return. Noise isn't a good deterrent. Might anger him and then you have a real bear problem.
Carla · 61-69, F
@PoetryNEmotion I am just going to ground feed till winter. I just can't quit on my cardinal pair. They've been residents for several years now. I dont imagine mr bear will return for a while. They do rounds.
But, i do have many apple trees beyond the fence. But grapes within it.
Those will both be very attractive come late summer.
Ive read that abrupt, loud and unusual noises do scare them.
I guess we will see.
