He is magnificent. Around where I live, people feed birds in the summer too. So bears rob the feeders. Birds need food in the winter. They can live fine the rest of the seasons on their own. I have gardens with flowers the birds like and I leave them up all winter for picking. Nice photo.

@Carla Bears like easy pickings. Bird feeders are take-out. Thank you for thinking of the bears.

@PoetryNEmotion I love the wildlife here. And I believe bears to be our brothers. This brother needs to stay on his side of the fence!
PoetryNEmotion · F
@Carla I replied below. Fences mean nothing to bears. Thank you for respecting and caring for wildlife.

Yes, and that several people doubted your certainty. I'd feel awe and probably some fear also, if I saw one in my backyard. Not afraid for myself, so much, but that the bear would return while my little dog was outside.
I hope your plan of the bringing the bird feeders in before dusk works, my friend. As thrilling as it is to see a wild bear that close, your concern for the dogs is surely justified.

He was just trying to let you know the treats were all gone so you could refill.
I think I’m happy now with just my pesky squirrel 🐿 telling me my bird feeder is empty. 😂
Nice picture picture wait until the whole family shows up.

Bears are a noble site but only from a distance.

Awesome. I'm afraid he's gotten himself accustomed to it, and he's going to be back :-( Stay safe!

Great photo. Does this kind of bear kill you? I love bears but have never lived near them.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
Yogi Bear must be on a crash diet. Going from picnic baskets to bird food.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Barefooter25 it wasnt even full. I think he was remebering the full one he helped himself to a month ago.
And I think boo boo helped yogi way more than he would admit🙃

What kind of pigeon is that? 🤔 I only get pigeons in my garden so I'm assuming it's a pigeon
Carla · 61-69, F

nacnud · 36-40, M
I think you have the evidence. Squirrels are usually the main culprit in the UK.
melbeacher · 61-69, M
Wow !
TheLordOfHell · 41-45

Carla · 61-69, F

@Carla Wow he still has some growing to do, in that case. Be safe!
Carla · 61-69, F
@TheLordOfHell oh, i will. Taking precautions now. I don't have a sight line from the house to the back fence. So yeah...verrryyy careful...

@PoetryNEmotion it isn't cruel. It's cruel to use chemicals or spikes. I won't do that. But I have small dogs that have free access to the back yard. I spent thousands to fence the yard for them.
I yelled and banged a pot to get this guy to go, he did,but was very casual about it. A good scare might make him second guess a return visit.

@Carla The bear doesn't care whose backyard it is. As long as bird feeders are there, he will return. Noise isn't a good deterrent. Might anger him and then you have a real bear problem.
Carla · 61-69, F
@PoetryNEmotion I am just going to ground feed till winter. I just can't quit on my cardinal pair. They've been residents for several years now. I dont imagine mr bear will return for a while. They do rounds.
But, i do have many apple trees beyond the fence. But grapes within it.
Those will both be very attractive come late summer.
Ive read that abrupt, loud and unusual noises do scare them.
I guess we will see.
