We’re evolved from highly territorial, omnivorous apes. Of course we aren’t a peaceful society.

Society makes you. Your character came from the motions you went through last week, and growing up. The economy, the system, it was designed to make you make war. Obviously we could make you like being peaceful - or make you act like chickens. You definitely deserve it. The last one to call the tune said "horrific killers", and you are. You are material people me. Who voted to be a war.

It is all good until somebody touches our stuff.

"Hey, bro, hands off my stuff!"

Then the wars begin.

No, we are that all on our own. Nothing to do with apes.

Yeah but you go back far enough and we evolved from fish. We don't breathe water anymore, and most of us don't just indiscriminately eat whatever happens to be in front of us. Change is possible.

I get your point, and agree, but humans didn't evolve directly from apes. Primates have similar ancestors but evolved separately over many, many millions of years. There were many "Homo" species before Sapiens came to be.
