Especially if you thought you had something special and deeper than what the person made it appear to be.

But just remember that life is all about “fit”. If they left, they have their reasons to feel they don’t “fit” in your life. Or that you don’t fit in theirs.

I usually give one last attempt to reach out and if there is no response I let them go. I agree that it is better to respect the dead, but that urge to practice necromancy does linger beneath the surface for a while.
