I am going to let stories speak for themselves.

Prudence Crandall was an American schoolteacher and activist. She ran the first school for black girls in the United States. When Crandall admitted Sarah Harris, a 20-year-old African-American female student in 1832 to her school, she had what is considered to be the first integrated classroom in the United States.

She was great, great, Aunt on my father's side of the family. She was burned out of her home more than once but didn't give up on her dream to educate young African American women.

To my adoptive mother... who took in a severely damaged and illiterate creature and turned her into a happy and loving daughter , mother, wife . She gave me purpose and ability and guidance . I can never repay her for all she has done for me , I can only pay it forward.

Here is one very recent example. I have excerpted passages from the Latin Times website:

Diana Trujillo was 17-years-old when she immigrated to the United States from Colombia with only $300 and not speaking any English. She worked housekeeping jobs to pay for her studies when in 2007 she decided to join the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

NASA's Perseverance rover successfully landed on Mars last week with Trujillo as its flight director on the mission. Trujillo said that it took her some time to process that it had arrived on another planet, according to a CBS News report.

Trujillo is now part of NASA in Jet Propulsion Lab. She worked on the team that created that robotic arm that is responsible for the collection of rock samples on Mars.

Trujillo is one of the few Hispanic women working in the same field, saying that she has not forgotten her roots and that it helped her get to the top of the aerospace field, according to a People report.

In addition, she said that being an immigrant motivates her to always give her best, especially that she came in a country that had limited opportunities.

"I was born and raised in Colombia. There was a lot of violence going on in my country, so for me, looking up at the sky and looking at the stars was my safe place," Trujillo was quoted in a report.

Trujillo said that part of the reason that she wanted to get into the space field was to prove some of her family members wrong, saying that she wanted her family members, particularly the males, to recognize that women add value.

Back in college, Trujillo said she did not know what major she would declare at the University of Florida. It was when she reached the dean and saw a magazine that had images of a female astronauts that she chose aerospace engineering as a major.

My mother. She was a lady of quiet class, dignity and perseverance. She didn't seek the limelight or to be some well known name. But the things she endured and her behavior and grace in face of it all, created deep respect and admiration within me.

My daughter Ali. Not quite 25, two degrees, both gained while working, the youngest in her department and already up for promotion. She’s ambitious but humble and kind and just the right amount of sass. 😄 Kid blows me away. 😊

Hedy Lamar.... Not only a great actress, but also invented radio frequency hopping in WW2 to secure radio communications!
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M

There are a many women that I admire. One in particular stands out. She is so strong while thinking she is not. She is intelligent and street smart in spite of a lifetime of being told she isnt. And to top off the package, she is the most kind and compassionate person I know. She wants to help others and gives of herself. She likely wouldn't recognize herself in my description, but that is just her modesty and humility.

My mom, who taught me so much.
My best friend, who stood with me through thick and thin.
My grandmother who loves me unconditionally.

My girlfriends on here, and in real life, who act as friends, and guidance counselors without judgement.

I admire my cousin who was able to escape the madness that is our dysfunctional family and culture and now lives as a free woman in NY. I hope she continues to thrive.
I have the most awesome Mom in the history of Moms. She stands alone. She is head and shoulders above the rest !!!!
Lita Ford. My idol as a young rocker, who made me believe that hard rock and metal was for us too.

Blodyn · 22-25, F
My Mam, bringing up us six kids.
Nanoose · 61-69, M
I admire a lady in our community because she is one tuff mama. If she see's or hears about somebody selling hard drugs to the young youth in our community she will pay them a visit and make them wish they were flipping burgers at Mc Donald's. Cheers!

Gift to the first correct answer.
No cheating..
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@DrWatson I expected a "Dr" to get that.
Did you work with her?!

🤣😭🤣🤣
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Harriet03 You know what? That question got me doing a little bit of google research about the dates of her life. She worked as a nurse in the Crimean war. As it turns out, in Arthur Conan Doyle's premier Sherlock Holmes story, "A Study in Scarlet", Watson begins the narrative by explaining how he had been wounded in the Crimean war and had to return to London (where he eventually meets Mr. Sherlock Holmes).

Maybe she was his nurse!!!
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@DrWatson Possibly.
She's remembered as a pioneer nurse, it was as a statician she really excelled.
Reorganisation etc
