@Harriet03 You know what? That question got me doing a little bit of google research about the dates of her life. She worked as a nurse in the Crimean war. As it turns out, in Arthur Conan Doyle's premier Sherlock Holmes story, "A Study in Scarlet", Watson begins the narrative by explaining how he had been wounded in the Crimean war and had to return to London (where he eventually meets Mr. Sherlock Holmes).

Maybe she was his nurse!!!

She's remembered as a pioneer nurse, it was as a statician she really excelled.
