Who is your favorite fictional detective? Describe a bit.

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Sherlock Holmes. ~ Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Holmes described himself as a 'Consulting Detective'.
Using deductive reasoning; observations and logic to determine the killer.

Kurt Wallander. ~ Henning Mankell

Wallander survived an attempt on his life as a young police officer. His wife left him and their Daughter who attempted to take her own life at 15 as a result. Their relationship is fractious
He's prone to bouts of depression and in truth, if he wasn't so good at what he does would have quit a long time ago

John Luther. ~ Neil Cross

Dedicated and ingenious, Luther works to find the truth to any case knowing he's working within a corrupt organization.
Made worse by the fact he finds himself having to be less than honest in his dealings with certain people.
Ultimately he knows if there's to be any justice for some of the victims, he's going to have to dispense it himself.

Edward 'Fitz' Fitzgerald. (Cracker) ~ Jimmy McGovern

'Fitz' is a brilliant criminal Psychologist.
He understands the 'chaos' of a murder scene and when interviewing suspects can suss out their motives; means and the why.
Chaotic in his personal life, he once summed himself up when confessing to his Priest.
"Bless me father for i have sinned. It's been thirty odd years since my last confession !
I think too much.....I drink too much !........I smoke too much.....i am too much !"

Jane Tennison. (Prime suspect) ~ Lynda La Plante.

A British female Police Officer with balls !
Over the years she got pushed and passed over for promotion many times.
Constantly having to fight the sexist male dominated force, she ultimately makes it to Detective Superintendent.
Although not without causing some embarrassment to the 'couldn't-care-less' higher ups !
Would recommend the tv adaptations as Helen Mirren brought Tennison to life wonderfully

[image deleted]Columbo. A 1970's TV detective. Known for his rumpled raincoat, and always having one more question. Very smart, and observant.

Frank Drebin(played by Leslie Neilsen) from Police Squad and the Naked Gun movies
Just hilarious

Colombo. He dresses sloppily, smokes a cigar, talks like he’s not real bright, lets the criminals tell off on themselves because they think he’s too stupid to catch what they are saying....brilliant strategy.

Holmes
Extremely intelligent, watching him work through cases was like working a puzzle with some psychological intelligence behind it.

His Grace, His Excellency, The Duke of Ankh; Commander Sir Samuel Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch.
Don't laugh, The Hardy Boys. Read all their books & enjoyed the TV show (out in late 70s - early 80s)
Johnny Lee Miller as Sherlock in Elementary
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SethGreene531 He added the Aspergers dimension which really brought some level of balance. Brilliant. But deeply flawed.. 😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Yes! Brilliant with greatly heightened perception. He fought his demons when conjured within a case. Heroin in particular.

@sassypants I was just watching an old episode. The character is someone I probably wouldn’t like in real life.
sassypants · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard He is very rough around the edges. I think he is really just a big teddy bear.
Humphrey Bogart’s character in the Maltese Falcon.
