If the only Golden Corral in town closes down will the town ever be the same?

They closed during the quarantine & reopened but people are seated & tell a waitress what they want & then have to wait till they bring it. Now the restaurant is closing due to few customers. The end of the buffet era is upon us.
I stopped going when the virus began in China as Chinese buffets were my favorite. Sad to see them go but being alive and healthy is worth it.

@BlondilyOld For sure. There was a Chinese Buffet in Lansing, Michigan I used to love...west of Lansing, actually. They used to serve snow crab legs, maki rolls, dumplings...awesome food.

@BlondilyOld the last time we went was a month before the quarantine. We were sitting at the table, a one-armed man & his girlfriend or wife came in and we seated next to us. The woman sat down and let the one-armed man go get her plates of food. Then he went & got his food and set the plate on the table. Stood there and sneezed the biggest sneeze in our direction. We sat there silent & when someone finally whispered something about it, I said “well you might want to think about the food bars and how many germs are on it”...We never went back.

Lots of things are closing down, due to the quarantine. Funny how the economy started booming and suddenly there is a spike in cases. This isn't about a virus it's about destruction.

@curiosi People don’t want to go to a buffet and have to order foods like in other kinds of restaurants even though it’s pay-one-price & it’s already cooked. I think some like to get a little bit of this-and-that and a couple servings of other foods. Especially meat foods.

Buffet food is usually no big loss, IMO. My mother used to love the Country Buffet in Brockton, so we were forced to eat that stuff every year on her birthday.

I don't think I've ever been to a Golden Corral. It's a three hour drive to the only Golden Corral in Massachusetts...but I do see the commercials on TV.

@4meAndyou yes that’s what they do anyway, hire a lot of students to work back in the kitchen with the regular cooks.. living on campus is a big rip-off, the daily meal prices they charge are outrageous compared to what a student can buy food and eat too. It gets the students in debt With student loans right in the beginning and this needs to be stopped.

@cherokeepatti There is a LOT about universities that needs to be stopped. Not talking about food, either.

@4meAndyou Oh I agree with you on that.

I'm kind of getting "of that age" and I know a lot of younger people will rip on you for liking GC - but for seniors or people w/big families on a limited income - places like that are a godsend. Yeah some folks stuff their pockets w/rolls or steal the butter or whatever...but its cheap eats and if everyone hated them they wouldn't exist. Like Payless shoes...yeah cheap shoes but it employed a lot of people and served a purpose. We can't all afford Nordstroms or fine dining....

@luctoretemergo I heard that people would sit and wait for the food to arrive & then when they want something else they’d have to order it and wait again. they probably waited longer than what it took them to eat the food. But anyway their customer base is pretty well gone.

They tried to open a Golden Corral in my old hometown (well outside their usual market area) a number of years ago, but they didn't really put a lot of thought into it and it never caught on. It closed down after about two years sadly, and the town didn't really change at all.

I like them ... I haven’t been in while

Ours closed over ten years ago and the town never missed a beat. It seems that other than fast food places (McD's, Wendys, etc.) the best and most popular restaurants are locally owned.

I loved eating at that place 30-years ago. I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t eat out much anymore in the last decade.
