I Have Gotten In Trouble At School

@JoBlak Very progressive head you had! We had no choice in the matter.

@MAJFF do some of them good to have their mouths washed out with soap the way they swear and to back it up with a few sharp whacks with a leather slipper on the bare bottom. I think parents are too soft tody....if i behaved like that when i was a boy but in the late 50,s their would be no shouts of abuse or you are not allowed o do that, my bare bottom would be on the receiving end of a hard caning from dad.

@Naughtyboyneeds yes....a sore bottom if you were naughty did not mean your parents were not loving and caring. Indeed if your were not whacked when you were naughty others use to think your parents did not care.

No my Mum and Dad were very caring and loving, but if I misbehaved then I would be punished, and yes on a couple of occasions I did get my mouth washed out with soap

@sarahcs yes,,,that was all part of the punishment. It was not just a case of bending over and getting your bottom whacked

@sarahcs We were always caned at the end of the day so that you could go home afterwards. I was caned at 13/14 and it was like a right of passage then so I let all my friends know and proudly showed off my stripes the next day. When I was next caned at 17 I was ashamed of myself and kept it from my friends. They never knew!

@CathyUK It certainly was. In some classes it was in daily use; other teachers were more sparing.
In my period of the 60s, and 70s, it was just normal teaching.

I do not think parents knew just how much the slipper hurt, as they always looked upon it as a mild punishment, mostly because the marks did not remain very long on the bottom, compared to the cane. In 1986 when cp was abolished in state schools I think most thought this only applied to the cane and were surprised that the ban included the slipper,ruler and any striking of the body.

The slipper was very effective and accepted by all. I think most boys took the view that they would one day get the slipper and was a case of when they would get it, not if they would get it.As a boy and then as a deputy it was a leather house shoe and when that was cracked across the bottom it hurt, corrected the boy and sent out a warning to the rest of the class. I think the trouble was that some teachers did not use a suitable slipper and tended to use a gym shoe. For a while the Dunlop Green Flash with its thick rubber dole was popular. The trouble was that this had a solid rubber sole and rather than sting the bottom tended to leave a bruise. It was not suited for purpose.

@sarahcs wow yer we were caned nude and I feel for you it hurt like hell .

@sarahcs Were you in the UK? We didn't have consent forms, teachers just did as they pleased.

@sarahcs well you took your knickers down or it was done for you and was it a line up of some bare bums and some knickers up and some pants up

@sarahcs Definitely. The slipper just stung a bit s I was having it and the sting wore off quite quickly, The cane stung a lot more as I was having it and the sting lasted a lot longer.

@Sharon I was lucky that our schools did not have the UK tradition of CP.

@chrisCA Some of the non-CP sanctions could be worse though. In some cases (mainly 5th and 6th forms) we were given a choice of the slipper or detention. I can't recall anyone opting for the detention.

@Sharon We just got detention from grade 7, and up.

@sarahcs we how would you change in the lock room for gym so no one would see your red bum?

@sarahcs Even in 6th form my friends and I were proud of our marks.

@Birgit12 when i was at school, 50/60 era, if you failed to produce your homework, even once, no excuses were accepted, it was out the front, trousers and pants down and over the chair for two strokes of the cane from the teachers across the bare bottom. Mind you i was at a private all boys prep school and the cane was in constant use. Ehen i was a deputy one of the most common reasons for me having to use the slipper was for boys that had to report to my study at 4;15 for not doing homework. It was a standard punishment. If it was the first time they had to report that year it was two sharp whacks with the leather slipper across their underpants but if they had been before it was pants off and two on the bare bottom which stung nrearly twice as much.

@chikki oh 2 with the slipper over pants but if they had been slippered before bare bum. Do I guess you had a book to keep track who had been slippered before and how many times they got slippered so did the have to bf lined up naked from the waist down or when they got into your office you would check the book and say ´okay you underpants down » so if they had been slippered before it was bare bum but only 2 swats what if the had been slippered before also bare bum?

@Sharon Really it sounds to me the school was sexiest seeing the girls got it on the knickers and boys over pants . But the boys and girls got slippered together or separate?

@updown2020 punishments were, even for the slipper recorded. Also, and the way it was checked, each boy had an index card with his punishments on. The entries changed colour inks each year. Most of the time i just use to ask the boys if they had it before and they said yes or no. They tended not to lie as they knew when i made the entries later they would be in more trouble. Regardless pf if they had it before, no homework was two hard whacks across the bottom with a proper leather sole house slipper, not a gym shoe

@Cheekyhannah no good feeling sorry for yourself because you were going to get it. It was just bend over and take it and ho[e it was over quicky and was not that bad./ It was always bad as the sting built up on your bottom as it was whacked

@Pdad49 yes....trouble is some people refer to the gym shoe as the slipper. The slipper was a house shoe, often with the top cut off and a large flexible leather sole. It use to sting a little on trousers and pants, and a bit more on just pants. The correct way was to administer it to a boys bare bottom. The sting did not last nearly so long nor mark the bottom like the cane but many boys said that when it landed two of the leather slipper on the bare bottom, did for a short while, sting more than three of the cane on a bare bottom. The leather slipper really use to sting, but did not bruise. The gym shoe did not sting nearly so much and was more inclined to bruise
