Tortoise's like to crawl under the fence into my back yard. Loads of them! One of them befriended my dog. They play together. When she sees them out there she begs to go out. She only is friends with one of them and gets annoyed when it's a different one and flips them over. I told her not to do that as it was becoming a full time job make them right side up again. she no longer does that but still likes to go out and see if it is her friend.
@ProfessorPlum77 I am on a limited budget and so hardly order pizza, maybe once every 6-8 months yet she knows when I am talking to them and waits by the door for delivery.
I had one last night. Was playing tennis and saw a coyote dart past and into the woods, not 15 feet away. About ten minutes later, there was a loud ruckus, wild yelps and inhuman screams emitting from those very same woods. We figured the coyote caught a raccoon, perhaps a baby, and the mother raccoon was fighting for it, or was upset. It lasted about three minutes, the sound travelling back and forth in the fescue, but out of sight of our prying eyes. About an hour later as I sat in my car after the match, the howls and calls of the coyotes (there were numerous ones) rose from the dark. I stopped to record the sound...it was both haunting and beautiful.
I had a cat that was very … simple. He had been stepped on as a kitten. In defense of the stepper, it was a solid black kitten on a solid black rug. Blended right in! and on a few windy days, slammed in the door a few times. He tried to have sex with everything. We had large crows? Some large bird, that picked up on his quirks and would tease the guy. They would spread out, about 12 feet, or 6 feet on either side of him. One would yell at him and when he would turn and ‘sneak up’ on the bird’ the other would hop over and pull his tail and hop back. So when he turned to who pulled his tail, the other would sneak up and pull his tail. Over and over until I would go out and bring him back in.
Honestly all the time. Human beings irritate the living shit out of me but I love animals and they can sense it. Today in the park these two squirrels kept coming close to me even though I had no food. Just were being friendly I guess. Same thing happens with birds a lot. I also see a lot of rare birds that will come up to me as well. Those ones I wouldn't mind feeding but it can be dangerous to give bread. The most interesting of all these was this huge House Sparrow that hung out with me at McDonald's. The tiny version of these are all over NY, but this one was very unique and I'm grateful that it was so comfortable around me.
@LavenderTown That is neat. I know what you mean about birds. Where I walk in the evening, when I hear the cardinals make their "tick" sound, I snap my fingers a few times and usually one or two come out of hiding and land a few feet from the bench I like to sit on. It is as though they recognize me or recognize I am trying to communicate with them when I snap my fingers.
I had a dog as a kid that was a Dalmatian/beagle mix. Smart and spot on when it came to people. He was a friendly dog but always seemed to growl at people who later on turned out to be utter shifty shite. He was an amazing friend and I still miss him.
