I Have Random Thoughts

How important is for you to feel productive? I feel that on some days posting here a couple of things, which are likely to be read just by a few friends, is the only productive thing I do in the whole day. And it makes me feel guilty.

I know there is no reason for this feeling. Being productive is something ingrained in most of us, in many cases as the contrary of being selfish.

If I had children, I doubt I would have this feeling. Everything you do for your children is productive. Maybe that's the reason why people have children?

I think most people have children because they want to have children and because they give meaning to your life.

I wonder about this too sometimes. But some people are more driven and productive than others. As long as I do good work and read at least a few pages - or a chapter or two - of a good book, then I am happy.

@Mugin16 Reading a good book is building yourself, which is a good thing.

Being productive today means making something than can be exchanged for money in our society, not even something useful. And society is a too broad word.

Perhaps what I miss is doing something for my community. But even that is hard to do today away from institutions that have an agenda behind.

@Cierzo Community should be your neighbours and your fellow inhabitants of your village or town. Meeting them and eating together and helping each other out - all these things help the community.

I don't know, I dont have children or have the yearning, what I think is productive is getting my shit together. make sure the garden is tidy make sure my work assignments are done , see various family members with children (people with children tend to spend time with their own families)

Productiveness is subjective to what you want out of life. Children would not give me the productiveness I yearn. I'd more than likely not get the things I want done because of them.

@Gangstress You are right when you say productiveness is subjective.

The usual meaning of being productive today is spending eight hours working in exchange for a salary, regardless of the real utility of that work.

I think of being productive in terms of doing something for a community (family, town, even the SW communitity), but why not for yourself?

@Cierzo exactly Cierzo. Thanks for understanding

I have been thinking about it too. I just know that my day feels better when it has a routine or a rhythm. Now that I’m at home doing home things, i like it when things are clean and neat. It pleases no else but myself 😊. And all these as my colleagues are in school dealing with crap. I don’t envy them even though they are getting a salary and I’m not. Peace is something that $ cannot buy.

@novembermoon Perhaps we should stop using such an economics-related word as productive, and say that our day is meaningful, or not wasted, instead.
JustNik · 51-55, F
For me personally, a day feels productive if I get a fair number of “need to do’s” accomplished. Family does create a lot of those and I’m not really certain how my definition would change without that. I suppose it might very well be that I would need to go out and take care of someone or something in the community.
Cierzo · M
@JustNik I agree with the 'need to do's', but I wonder how many of them:

1- are really needs, because otherwise we or the ones we care about would be worse.

2- are necessary only to keep the work-earn-consume wheel turning.

3- are fake obligations we make up due to media, social forums, peer pressure.

I think the term productive is slave talk, with all due respect. We are indoctrinated at a young age to produce and comply.

I think the bigger question is who am I? Question everything, especially the normie bs. And raise your vibration.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@Cierzo The monk also did it for the glory of God.
Peaceful · F
@Cierzo and it's become a tool of worthiness. Sadly.
Cierzo · M
@Mugin16 True.
