What are your thoughts on celebrity scientists?

Do you hold them to the same standard as other scientists? Do you think they are good for nothing other than entertainment?
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Bill Nye. Michio Kaku. Neil DeGrasse Tyson. These men are making science accessible and interesting and I wholeheartedly support that.
InkBot · 36-40, M
@RopinTexan Kaku is a huge fan of science fiction, and he loves discussing time travel and stuff like that. You have to check him out.
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
@InkBot Sounds interesting. Is he an actual scientist?
InkBot · 36-40, M
@RopinTexan He sure is! He's very passionate and excited with science. He makes it fun.
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
I don’t care if they’re celebrities or not. I hold them to the same standard as any other scientist. Do your job, follow the scientific method, and you’re good. When speaking in public, stick to your specialty—science. I don’t give a flying fuck about your political views.
InkBot · 36-40, M
@RopinTexan Do you think they should never discuss politics?
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
@InkBot “Never” is a strong word. If their science is related to politics, such as a cure to Covid for example, then it may be warranted. But generally speaking, when a famous person is famous for specializing in something, they should stick to their expertise. Politicians should discuss politics, scientists should discuss science, musicians should make music, etc.

We’re all entitled to our own opinions, political or otherwise, but that doesn’t mean we should care or treat their opinions as valuable just because they’re famous.

@RopinTexan Good answer! I agree.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Like John Olinger? He's inventing a time machine!
InkBot · 36-40, M
@hunkalove He's the best of our time.
