I would like to know if any in S.W. has given thought to writing a book?

I would like to know if any in S.W. has given thought to writing a book?
I write. I can write memories and fantasies'. I try hard to hold the memory of my self as a child. Remembering my dreams and my thoughts and the knowing I was deeply loved by my parents. Frankly, I (being the youngest) was well aware I was Mama's favorite. Still knowing we felt the same. I miss Mama. I sometimes feel her presence looking over my shoulder.
I have written poetry. I have a published book on Amazon, That I didn't purchase the copyright, I have no rights to the shares in sales. And Carla is always writing something. Be it a dream or merely a thought, I continue to open my mind with my thoughts and dreams. Also I feel I am an open book with poetry. Still when I write it ALL comes from within.
The lonely friendless little girl who sat in a tree in her back yard reading books and being amazed at how the paragraphs always collided in perfect Sincerity.

I have and started several times. I can write fine; it is the outlining and editing that I suck at. So I find myself constantly circling back and replowing the same stuff. So I wound up writing a series of short essays on happenings and lessons in my life, triggered by current events in daily life, for my grandchildren. Had 3 volumes by the time they were old enough to share it with them.

@dancingtongue Of course it doesn't include the juiciest chapters. Those I share here and elsewhere. 😜

I've thought about it, but just don't know how to get it to sell.
And the process of doing it.
carparkman1234 · 61-69, M
@Virgo79 search for guerilla publishing in Facebook and join it. Some oustanding advice on how to get books to sell. Run by a very successful writer.
@Virgo79From a reality point of view, it is so hard to get published these days. But, that doesn't mean that it's hard, either, at least not for some.

Pre-publishing is very helpful, but that comes in at a cost and even then it's possible that the structure of what is written will be critically assessed (in your interest, of course,) and further work needed to eventually get it to be written 'correctly' for the publishing house of choice. It all costs money with absolutely no guarantee that it will be found acceptable in the final analysis. 90% of what is submitted is rejected, whilst within the 'acceptable' 10% there would still be those which would be considered needing 'tweaking'.

'50 Shades of Grey' went 'Viral'; not easy to do in actual print, but it did and so many Authors agree that the work itself is full of (considerd) 'obvious' mistakes. I guess it's not too unlike saying that what is expected to fall outside 'acceptable', in this case, is what forced it to become a success ... and still is a success.

Self publishing can be lucrative because less instant cash is needed, whilst 'print on demand' these days is considered a good way to begin any future career. But in any event, it's best to start thinking along the lines of making a bit of money on the way rather than becoming a millionaire overnight. But ... you never know; you could be the next famous writer in Barnes and Noble

Good luck to you :)

😯
Yes I have, then thought about parting with some of my best kept poetry but, so far, done neither. I can't quite figure out what happened to the work you had printed and published on Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter? ...

Under U.S. copyright law, your self published work is protected as soon as you put the pen to paper. Copyright is based on your creative authorship and is not dependent on any formal agreement with a book publisher or self publishing company, although registration with the U.S. Copyright Office is beneficial.

The only reason I mention this is that I think that if it's legal that you don't have any rights to any financial gain, the something seems to be badly wrong for you :(

I am in the middle of two now and have a series of short stories but none published yet.
Carla1951 · 70-79, F
@Jlhzfromep Take on one at a time. Allow your characters to 'become;' to be seen, and to believe in themselves.
You soon will realize you are writing about yourself. Open yourself to the reader as you become the Character. To become a character yourself within the story that desires to be heard.
Know the dream you have within, can express itself as it brings forward your own powerful force. Listen for the sounds in the air. Describe the breeze and the scents they bring.
I create. I built a scene that houses the words that need to be felt and known because these words NEED to be told!
And even more, I feel my own aching in a similar way of the characters that are born.

@Carla1951 thank you for the advice
i have a story untols

Listen to the sounds of nature as you walk in the park. Hear the rustling of the branches as you hear the noises increase coming closer your way. Allow the reader to see the pictures you see.
I was always a very shy and lonely child. There is a lot of myself in my book. Your heroine is your key. In your mind she is real. You have to write the words you feel.
Using a lot of Nature sounds as well as colors play a large part in fillers.
LOVE what you write and the reader will also want more of this same feeling.

@Carla1951 There was a time when I had a brain freeze and turned on the radio. Used a few words from the song.
Carla1951 · 70-79, F
@Carla1951 that was playing.

@SW-User well done. Keep writing!

@carparkman1234 We get a thought and it lands in a tree, and the wind blows it free. See? How simple it can be?

I have written a children's story. It is about 2100 words in length. The ending needs some revision. I kind of mailed in the last two pages.
carparkman1234 · 61-69, M
@Carla1951 Great idea and yes I sort of did that. I have a work colleague that has a 14 yr old daughter who I gave a copy to. She in turn gave it to some friends. Their feedback was mainly that the dialogue in it was not exactly how 14 yr old girls talk, so she altered it for me.

The book is about a 14 yr old girl and her friends and the issues she faces including bullying, which is due to some extent to her being in an online chat room (just like SW lol) and this messing with he mind. The lines between her real and online worlds collide.

The feedback was also that it was quite real and that the situations I wrote about have genuinely happened to some of them. I did have one parent (who also read it) say it was crap and would never happen! Sadly some parents are seriously out of touch with the realities of online chat and exactly what their kids get up to.
Carla1951 · 70-79, F
@carparkman1234 I see you offered this to an adult. NOT a child nor Teen. An adult is unable to see the words that you feel are needed for our YOUTH to view. The stories were written to be viewed by a Teen NOT an adult. Therefore they, growing up simply didn't 'get it'
Again, I suggest you take this to be viewed by a teacher.He/She May well know just what it is a child of that age is interested in.
Bullying is a HOT topic to 'DATE' And not many want to even discuss it. No wonder our teens are so confused.
Another option when you deliver the pages to a Classroom;
Discover the reading style that interests them the most at THIS time of their lives. Ask questions of the Students.
The kids today face multiple battles. They hide their fears and their hope, believing there is no self value Zero outcome to reveal their true space.

I am so happy you have taken on this roll. Yet know, that even if ONE child fails to step forward, You have planted the seed. The idea that might help their own recovery.
Continue to keep in mind that these kids fear most in having their own secrets revealed.
In this; seek the assistance of the Classroom teachers.
I love what you are doing.Cannot imagine the masses of teens that can find help in this.

@Carla1951 It was given to my friend's 14 year old daughter and her friends. And as I say, the feedback was great, particularly in the dialogue, but they did love the story. I also sent a copy to another 14 year old girl in Asia who I met in here! She loved it too and gave good editing feedback on one scene.

I doubt a school would let me read it to a class, as it has a few "awkward" scenes in it, including nudity. While all my test readers agreed all the scenes were true to life and definitely do happen, it would not be suitable to read out in a class. Its now on Amazon and experiencing modest sales levels.

Thanks for your comments. Most appreciated. Happy to send you a free e-book copy of it.

Yes... and I have even began a couple of times. But, at this point in my life, I'm spending my time writing what I want my children to have after I'm gone... Sharing the interesting details of my life and they have really never seen... a bit of a journey back through my past... 🙂
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
I'm in the process of writing a three part series - it's fiction, so not what you are writing; but it's quite a journey. I find that even though it's fiction, there is a lot of me in it.
Carla1951 · 70-79, F
@frequentlyme https://www.amazon.com/Moving-Towards-Dream-Carla-Wolf/dp/1424154448 Here so you can see the Cover Picture. However my lovely Arabian developed Colic at the barn where I had her Boarded. I miss her terribly.
carparkman1234 · 61-69, M
@frequentlyme Mine is a work of fiction too, about young teens, but some of my own thinking and activities at that age crept into it. I think it has to, or its won't feel genuine.
Carla1951 · 70-79, F
And Carla must leave for this evening. My back has been giving me a problem, wishing the pain away.so, good night and sweet dreams to all. May your dreams bring forth a smile.

Not a book...but my friends have roars of laughter when I tell them about most people here...lol

Invite your friends to come to Similar world's. However we may indeed find ourselves a bit crowded.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I have been trying for awhile. Just can't seem to work out the ending.
Carla1951 · 70-79, F
@Thevy29 Yes, the days when our mind goes POOF! Need some fill in's? Listen to the words of a song played on your radio. Then elaborate.
Mine was about a young girl that always dreamed of horses.
Till one day she discovered this mare that was being beaten and battered by her rider. She through off her embarrassment and fear of strangers to assist the mare.
And the story continues and she becomes a champion rider.
