do you find people from big cities really think they’re something special when they visit smaller towns/cities?

No one cares.

I have lived in a variety of places, of different sizes. In my experience, this sort of thing works both ways. On the one hand, I have known big-city people to have the attitude that small-town folks are ignorant and unsophisticated. On the other hand, I have known rural people to consider city folks as ignorant (they supposedly think chocolate milk comes from brown cows, for example) and parochial.

Does that mean spotted cows give half-and-half?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@MaryJanine Well, that's pretty obvious, isn't it? 😄

I always thought it was.
Generally speaking, Yes.

About 6-7 years ago I moved out of a city of 4 million and now I live in a city of 250,000.

I go back to visit relatives every few months in the big city.
Each time I notice more and more how life is different in both cities.
I come to the conclusion that the bigger the city is the more arrogant and they drive cars more aggressive.
I am glad I moved to a smaller city.

If you've ever lived in a big city for a while then visited a small town, you'd understand. It's like traveling back in time 50 years.

@DearAmbellina2113 well be careful not to blow anyone away with your supreme intelligence
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
It's not that they think they're smarter, they're just used to a more progressive advanced way of living that small towns haven't reached yet. 🤷🏻‍♀️
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
on the flip side is that smaller cities have a more personal and simpler way of life -usually more peaceful too - that big cities have forgotten about. @DearAmbellina2113

I don't care what they do as long as they don't feed the wildlife and trash up my forest.

Lol! Sometimes they have a right to feel that way especially if they’re cultured and experienced things in the city that a bum arse town couldn’t provide.

It’s not so black and white.

It’s all about learning from each other isn’t it ? If the city slicker wants to leave a small town mentality then fair play haha

No, I never noticed such thing. They are like that when somebody from a smaller city or town visits their city. Some people have this "what do you want here you peasant" attitude.

I noticed that when people visit smaller towns they tend to dress much more casually. Perhaps because they think there's nobody they would need to impress there. But I never heard them saying anything bad about the place or people. They were just surprised by certain things.

I've never noticed. But I have found small town folk to be friendlier though.

My siblings and I grew up in the big city. The youngest one and I still live in the city, but my middle brother lives in the west suburbs and he thinks everything in the city is lousy and his suburb is everything. He was just bragging recently about how he paid off his mortgage a few months ago and everything is cheaper there.
TheunderdogofNY · 36-40, M
Not really. But in general no one cares that's stating the obvious. I do enjoy visiting smaller towns and exposing myself to different ways of living. Can be a bit of a shock seeing how things are a bit slower than I am used to. But it's always nice to change up the scenery.

I guess the bigger the city, the more metropolitan the ideas tend to be. You can see things through a scope that doesn't really pertain to anyone else in reality outside of an idealism you've had the comfort to sit and think about.

some people I know have that attitude as towns are boring and deserted compared to cities but then again people there seem to have closer friendships unlike cities
Some for sure...more educated, cultured and sophisticated and therefore better than you...
Sicarium · 46-50, M
Some, but it's usually the ones that rarely leave the city. They're just used to their bubble.

Yes. Here in Italy they think thry are smarter. They are just more stressed.

No, I don’t. I never did. I’ve had the experience of rural dwellers making that assumption, though. Can’t we all just get along ? 😩

My cousin grew up in the rural part of DuPage County, and I grew up in the urban part of Cook County (both in Illinois). Since we were both the same age, she would often spend a weekend with us. But she used to say our water tasted terrible (we had treated water from the lake, and her water at home was well water.)
