I grew up with German Shepherds and Toy Poodles. I had a Pit Bull that died of old age and will never have that breed again because it was exhausting being 10x more the responsible pet owner because of the stigma people associate with them. The American Field Lab I have now has more personality I never imagined a dog could have.
@morrgin Working in tandem then. Our poodle had a poodle-neighbor friend in our rural area. who would in every nice weather day bring a rag or piece of rope...they’d play tug-of-war in the driveway till they got tired and then the neighbor’s poodle would pick up his rag or rope and trot back down the driveway and go home.
I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like really. We had Bella the yellow lab because I had an acquaintance who bred them. She was great with the kids and an excellent guard dog and cancer showed us she was tough as nails and had an undefeatable spirit.
Next we got Kane. He’s a boxer who had been sold and returned for reasons we never saw evidence of. He is the most affectionate creature I’ve ever met. Thinks he’s a lapdog, purrs like a cat when he’s feeling the love, and is overall infectiously joyful and comical. More high energy than Bella but he’s your guy when you want a napping partner. Variously over the years, I have favored St. Bernards, redbone coonhounds, springer spaniels and Corgis. Now, it's just like with people - I don't care who your parents were or whether you belong to the Club - it's who YOU are that matters.
My favorite dog ever is some weird Corgi/question mark mix rescue, and she lives with me now. I think she's beautiful, because I know her.
@tenente I always wanted a newfoundland! 😍 dudley down the road from my folks had a couple. He was a little guy so it always looked like he was taking his bears for a walk. 😂
