What are your thoughts on the CDC guidelines for not having to wear masks anymore?

I think the CDC is misguiding us on what we need to do about wearing masks. They said that they are no longer required but New York City (where I live) still wants us to wear them. I think we should still wear masks. Here are the reasons.

1. I feel like it's too soon to take them off. We can't just go from having to wear them for a very long time to suddenly taking them off.

2. You don't know who is vaccinated and who's not. The CDC said that fully vaccinated people don't have to wear masks anymore (except for if you're on public transportation), but the problem is you don't know who got the vaccine and who didn't. Some people who are not vaccinated may pretend that they got it.

That is just my opinion. I'd like to know your thoughts.

@EuphoricTurtle not in reference to the CDC. Bit generally he has been the "face" of the American response so for me the association is valid as many things were done and not done based on his recommendation

@Callmewhatyouwill not in reference to the CDC, who were the ones who set these guidelines, but somehow it is valid since he is the "face" of the American response?
It's a stretch but ok.
Any idea what the lie was btw?
@EuphoricTurtle meaning his recommendations did influence CDC guidelines. So indirectly he had a part in how they handled it.

At the end of the day he was supposed to be a reliable advisor on stuff like that so while not an actual decision maker what he said did carry weight.

Since it has been pretty much concluded that most covid is transmitted in aerosol form and not droplets the masks are likely spreading the disease not preventing it.

@EuphoricTurtle Are you talking to yourself again? Seriously you need to read both sides of the debate. Silly you. You believe the 'experts' and not the evidence. Too Funny!!!
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
@hippyjoe1955 as always I would be more than happy to read your evidence.

*Excuse not to share evidence in...3...2....1....

The CDC guidelines aren't just "not have to wear a mask anymore". It's a bit more layered.

You can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

If you travel, you should still take steps to protect yourself and others. You will still be required to wear a mask on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States, and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations.

I imagine that vaccination in the U.S. is similar to here in Canada, in the sense that old people and vulnerable people have been vaccinated first so although its still possible for covid to be transmitted from one person to another the chances are much smaller and the risk of this transmission leading to deaths is even smaller. this is not an opinion about if we should continue to wear mask but just my personal analysis of why the CDC took this decision. do I agree with this decision? I really don't know, I think people that know way more about public health than me are taking these decisions.

The CDC has guidelines, but no real control... also the CDC is part of the federal government, as such they need federal funding, which is approved by the United States legislators.

Some of those United States legislators happened to publicly call out the CDC while the CDC is trying to get their future budget plan in place... magical a change in CDC guidelines comes very very very shortly after.

I'm not saying it wasn't coming anyways, but I think the process might of been at minimum, sped up after the legislators got on them.

Rushed. Instincts are telling most reasonable people to continue to wear at the store, if you're near unvaxed people etc.

Wear a mask if you think it will protect you. Forcing those who are vaccinated doesn't make any sense. If they wish to continure wearing masks fine, let them. The "Science" says they are not needed for those who are vaccinated. There is no need for the nanny state to continue telling them what to do.

The people who were wearing masks are probably now vaccinated. The people not wearing masks are probably never going to get vaccinated.

I'm not wearing a mask to protect the idiots anymore.
Have only worn one when at the hospital. Will continue because, simply... The masks don't work.

Just be cautious and wear or longer I’d say
At least any indoor confined space

I'm fine with it. I always wore a mask and washed my hands like crazy, and still caught the bug.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Azlotto what kind of mask

Support it. We understand it enough now and it isn't as grim as possibly expected. Sorry, but it's time to progress and not let fear rule.
