What advice would you give to somebody that wants to get a puppy?

Never had a dog before.

Choose one that has similar energy as you. If you're very active outdoors, match that energy in the dog you get. If you're more lower energy, get one that is ok with that. Also, they are wonderful, but a lot of work. You need to be consistent and patient with them. And please be sure you have plenty of time to spend with it. If you work a lot and or are going to school, you should wait before getting one. Good luck. 💜

They are wonderful fun but require a lot of attention. A lifestyle changer if you take care of them well. Make sure your favorite places are pet friendly.

@Softandsweet2 I miss my dogs

Go online and check out the traits of every type of dog so you can get a good match in what you want. For example, if you want a dog that doesn't shed fur in the house, is easy to house-break and easy to train a poodle would be ideal. But they need to be groomed and that costs quite a bit. If you want a little yapping dog to alert you to burglars a chihuahua would be ideal. Etc.

@waleskinder you don't recommend it?

Make sure you walk the dog until he is tired before bringing him into your home for the first time. That way it starts off as a relaxed experience. I wish you the best of luck.

@SweetMae good suggestion.

@PurpleHearts Make sure and read a good book on house training.

make sure you're prepared for it to pee and poop everywhere for a few days before you learn how to tell when they need to go

@SW-User That's the scariest part. I'm afraid I won't be able to train him to poop in his litter box.

@SW-User I mean I'm still not house-trained
Think how serious you are to committing to a puppy´s life and needs.

If you are not able to provide it a forever home, donate money to shelters instead.

If you didn't get it house trained, have fun!!!

@DefiantHeart how do you do that?
@PurpleHearts You ask questions before bringing a pet home.
Taking care of a pet is like taking care of a child. If you like freedom, I don't suggest it. If you can only feed yourself at the end of the week and stay broke all the time, I suggest you leave the idea alone.
Where you go, you now have to ask yourself what will you do the new pet.

Get an older dog at least 6 months old.Puppies are harder than babies.
