Hi, this is raregem. I came back on here to update my friends on here and also for encouragement.
My hubby and I celebrated 26 years together this past April. He is my strength, my protector, my love and my best friend.
Recently he and I got an offer from our boss to take on more responsibility and with it came added stress, challenges and yes, money. Because life was getting out of hand for me I felt like I needed more distraction (to keep me on the straight and narrow and out of trouble!)
Before we dive into the new work load I asked my husband to please go to the doctor's. He's had discomfort in his gut for a month and kept putting off going because we don't have health insurance.
Well, he finally did. He used to get infections that could be cured w/ a couple of antibiotics so that's what we were thinking this was. They drew blood and it came back that his white blood cell count was rather high. They ordered an ultrasound and that revealed his enlarged spleen and liver.
After several tests the prognosis is Stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma. :'( Our hearts sunk and I tried hard not to lose it right there. No no no no.... not my best friend.
Treatment had to come quick and aggressively. He was in the hospital for 7 days getting 12 chemo treatments.
They even let me spend the night there with him.
[image deleted] Here I am in a gown the nurses got me to be cute.... and I bought my hubby some fake mustaches for when he lost his.
While he was getting his treatments I worked to keep everything afloat at the complex we ran. Still doing my office work I did some mowing too.
[image deleted] While he was away I went into super wife mode: Cleaning the house from top to bottom! When He came home I had to learn to flush his pic line and give him his meds. (there were 8 prescriptions!)
I surprised myself with all I was able to accomplish, even while crying inside.
I even cooked him some great meals!
This one is Wiener schnitzel! I learned to cook it! And I made chicken and roasts and plenty of sandwiches! I wanted him proud of me and he was and he is still.
He's back at the hospital. He will be there for several days getting more treatments. So I'll be at his side, I'll hold the fort down here at work and I'll be there for him when he comes home.
I love my husband. I'm believing he will come through this. I'm no where near ready to lose him!
I am a cancer survivor, been almost 6 years ago. Did 12 chemo treatments over 6 months. I know what he’s going through although his treatments are more aggressive than mine we’re. Will be praying for him and you. God bless
Thank you for the prayers Sir. We’re currently at the cancer center getting chemo. We’re hopeful, not sure if treatments are working yet or not. I believe they are going to do some scans soon and another bone marrow biopsy... then we’ll see what’s next.@olderuncle944
I'm sorry I haven't seen this sooner. My heart and prayers and well wishes to you and yours, mine, my wife's and our church. I would say I am sorry, but you seem stronger than that, so I will end with telling you I am thinking hopeful, encouraging thoughts your husband's way. I stand and believed with you Gem.
thanks rares i think im ok cancer scan was because my biological family most of the women died of cancer and i worked around asbestos bust for years doing thousands of brake jobs
Hello Raregem - I was happy to see that this was you back here - so sorry though for your current circumstances. Hoping your husband comes through ok - I was there with my Mum through this so know some of what he and you are suffering. {hugs}
@samueltyler2 It wasn't a screw up, it was the policies that messed it up. Literally my boss had authority to pay them $12,000. to get us insurance and because of three issues they couldn't do it. 1. They claimed the business didn't have an owner even though she showed it did. 2. My husband and I are married and they had issue with that! 3. It isn't a quote ''enrollment'' period, so they had issue with that. My boss was in tears because she loves me and my husband and wanted to do this for us and make it an added benefit. Right now we are trying to get a Medicaid Advantage Waiver and also trying to get him on SSA disability.
@realrare Medicaid is available through the ACA, depending upon income. Some states refused to participate though. At least ACA insurance can notbrefuse based on prior illness.

Still getting treated. Lately his ANC count has been so low that I have to give him daily shots to boost it. It hasn’t worked lately so he has to be careful because his immune system is down to low. @Thingschange4444
Ahhh Rares, my prayers are with you both. I missed you when you left. Now i wish that it was for another reason. Tell him get better soon and I want you to know I'm proud of you
I know it is we lost several family members to cancer good side is some are survivor's I hope you hubby is one of the survivors prayers to all of your family
@olderuncle944 He was in for 6 days getting treatments and got home this past weekend. Then on the 13th he goes back in for another week of chemo. We were told yesterday that they will do a scan after this next chemo treatments to see how he's progressing.
