Although I don't wish to even appear to remotely support anything that Trump has backed... it has to be said, that as testing increases it's inevitable there will be an increase in known cases.
This doesn't mean that these are necessarily fatal cases, and many may in fact not be presenting symptoms at all.
It's most likely a case of discovering what was already there rather than an increased transmission rate.

@Carla From what I checked a couple of days ago, globally there are 4.9 million confirmed cases, and 326 thousand deaths, out of a global population of 7.5 billion.
I would suggest that the number of true cases was far higher owing to a lack of sufficient teasting, and that the number of confirmed deaths is actually lower given the authorities' current inclination to err on the side of caution and mark down unrelated deaths down as Covid if the person happened to be infected.
So as for deaths we've lost 0.0043% of the global population to this virus, and 0.06% of the population are infected, with 6.6% of the infected dying, of which, 90% of THOSE had a prior health condition where ANY virulent respiratory infection could have killed them.
For some folks this is absolutely a life or death situation, and those who are at risk should certainly be maintaining social distancing. But it's inevitable there is a point at which a small about of lives are just not worth a global economic recession which would affect everyone.
That may sound callous, but I just see it as pragmatic.
Should we lock down the entire world because 500,000 person might die? Would we do it for 50,000? Would we do it for 10,000, or 1,000?
Would we do it to save just ONE person?
It's a moral dilemma really.
Do the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or don't they? And at which point does that come into affect?
I think it's very important to avoid reacting to this whole situation emotionally, or else everyone could suffer just for a few people all because people had to be seen to be 'doing the right thing'.

@TJNewton I think that's all we can do my friend... It doesn't help that the experts keep changing their minds and advice every couple of weeks, lol. I know it's the way science tends to work, but it's really putting people on edge.
As I've stated elsewhere, though there is certainly a pandemic in progress I think the biggest problem we face is political machinations rather than the virus itself.

I'm putting my hope on vit. D more than hot air being the reason why tropical/warmer countries experienced much smaller outbreaks than we did (even here in Italy, the colder north got hit much worse than the warmer and sunnier south, even after people mass migrated there when the lockdown decree was leaked, in a period when we never see the sun over here due to the fog and grey skies no less). There are some studies that found many correlation, which sure could not be causal, but who knows. If supplementing the population helps at least preventing hospitals getting overwhelmed it wouldn't be bad at all.

@Quizzical I'll look into it. There's another theory involving androgen as a possible factor, meaning not only that there would be a difference in infection of a male and females, but it leads the way toward possible therapy. Other research is looking at Route so long our DNA as a possible explanation for why The Simpsons are so incredibly varied.
I think the bottom line is that in our culture, we think we deserve and so we expect immediate information and answers. Sometimes those just don't come and we can't dictate their schedule. Right now it's all just puzzle pieces.

Please Please get your facts straight and use common sense. No government entities can make business owners "go back to work". They can however close them down. It has been the overwhelming choice of certain business owners to re-open for a multitude of reasons. I'm really not sure how you have determined your thoughts here. Business owners are being arrested for opening up against State imposed laws, not Federal. Slow down and stop making incorrect commentary

graylight well this is only to be expected this is what most governments are trying to avoid by using caution when re opening a rise in new corona virus cases would be a disaster but the arrogance of donald dick backing county cannot see this so blind and ignorant to the danger

It's not easter yet. On the 4th of april 2021 the churches will be full and the few cases we had will just be reduced to 0.

You mention Trump, he happens to be the president, he is not empowered to send people back to work, the unemployment bills he has signed do quite the opposite

Neither does yours

Even when you provide them with information disputing their claims they deny it there is no convincing people who are happy in their blissful ignorance.
